Interaction between Bifidobacterium (Bacteria) and mucosal epithelial cell of small intestines (Cell) was examined. It was employed
Bif infantis ss infantis. Cell obtained from pig embryo were cultivated with Eagle MEM. Bacteria were treated with antiserum (rabbit) against Bacteria, with pre-immuninized rabbit serum and with saline solution, respectively. In the case of Bacteria treated with pre-immuninized rabbit serum or treated with saline solution, junction between Bacteria and Cell was observed. And no junction was shown at Bacteria treated with antiserum vs Cell. On the other hand, Cell treated with polysaccharide obtained from Bacteria was observed higher affinity than intact Cell. Owing to influence of interaction between Bacteria and Cell, the gram staining property of Bacteria was changed to gram negative. These evidences suggest that interaction between Bifidobacterium and mucosal epithelial cell of small intestines is mediated by polysaccharide obtained from cell wall of Bacteria and also both phenomena, junction of Bacteria vs Cell and denature of bacterial cell wall may be effected each other.
