The genus Siphunculina Rondani from Nepal, including species known as eye flies that transmit some eye diseases and cause considerable annoyance in the Old World tropics, is taxonomically examined. Eight species are recorded, one of which, S. stigmatica sp. nov. is described as new to science and three of which, S. funicola (de Meijere), S. nitidissima Kanmiya, and S. simulata Kanmiya are newly recorded from Nepal. A comprehensive key to 8 species of the genus from Nepal and 6 already-known species from India is provided as well as illustrations of their male genitalia and descriminating marks on the head for the easy separation relevant to both fauna.

Houseflies collected from six places in Nepal in August 1992 and colonized in the laboratory were examined for susceptibility to eight insecticides by a topical application method. Most adult houseflies were more susceptible to the insecticides tested than those of the susceptible strain (Takatsuki). Two pyrethroid insecticides, d-t, allethrin and permethrin, showed low LD-50 values.

A field test to ascertain susceptibility level of the housefly, Musca domestica Linnaeus, to five kinds of insecticides viz, malathion, fenitrothion, propoxor, fenothrin and permethrin, was carried out on four wild colonies collected from Allahabad, India. Impregnated filter paper method, short time contact method and residual effect test were adopted. The results of experiments reveal that the Indian houseflies are more susceptible to malathion than Takatsuki strain, but susceptibility levels for the other four insecticides were approximately the same in the two strains. Susceptibility level of Musca domestica and M. sorbens Wiedemann to fenothrin and permethrin was tested. Their susceptibility level was neary the same results.

The genus Chrysomya Rob.-Desvoidy is remarkable for having several times produced a derived male form with sharply demarcated enlarged upper and small lower ommatidia. The original (normal) form shows a gradual reduction from top to bottom in ommatidium size. In the relatively well studied C. megacephala, the evolution of the derived form was associated with the development of a widespread and successful pest. Because little is known about the habits of the other dimorphic Chrysomya spp., we examined the collection information for the dimorphic C. pinguis (Walker) from 8 Asian countries. The ecological information, albeit limited, suggests that the derived form of C. pinguis is more widespread and synanthropic than the normal form.

Electrophoretic banding patterns at five enzyme loci viz., aldehyde oxidase (AO), malic enzyme (ME), xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and acid phosphatase (ACPH) were analyzed in Sarcophaga amplicercus Shinonaga et Tumrasvin. AO, XDH, ME were monomorphic and ACPH and LDH were polymorphic. The electrophoretic phenotypes at both the loci were governed by two electromorphs.

Electrophoretic techniques were employed to investigate the distribution of genetic variation at three enzyme loci viz., aldehyde oxidase (AO), malic enzyme (ME) and xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) in seven laboratory colonies of Sarcophaga pattoni Senior-White. AO an ME were found to be monomorphic in all the colonies. XDH showed polymorphism in two colonies.
