Effects of the addition of silica fume (SF) and sodium polyacrylate (PANa) on the hydration of slag-alkali cement (SAC) based on NaOH solution were discussed from the data of hydration products and compositional changes in liquid phase. The following conclusions were obtained.1) In the system of slag-H
20, reactivity of slag is very low because of the low concentration of the elements in the liquid phase. The concentration had reached just over the saturated concentration of hydrates after a few days.2) By using NaOH solution, the concentration of Al (OH)
4-ion was kept very high. From the solution, C-S-H was first produced and the formation of crystalline aluminate hydrate was followed.3) In the system of NaOH solution with and without PANa, CS-H, C
3ASH
4, AFm and Ca (OH)
2 were produced.4) Addition of SF resulted the higher concentration of SiO
44-ion and Al (OH)
4-ion, and accelerated the formation of C-S-H.5) The addition of PANa accelerated the formation of C-S-H without raising the concentration of SiO
44-ion in liquid phase. It also prevented to produce the aluminate hydrates.
