    Two new species of hyphomycetes, Arachnophora dinghuensis and Websteromyces inaequale, are described and illustrated from specimens collected on dead branches of unidentified plants in China. Arachnophora dinghuensis is characterized by monoblastic, integrated, terminal, occasionally percurrently extending conidiogenous cells that produce solitary, acrogenous, staurosporous conidia. The conidia are two-celled, irregular, brown, 21–27.5 × 10–17 μm, with a central body that bears 2 or more fertile, brown to pale brown lateral cells, which in turn give rise to 1–3 fertile, conical, hyaline to pale brown arm-cells, 4–6.5 × 3.5–4.5 μm. A microconidial, Selenosporella-like synanamorph occurs at the apex of the arms. Websteromyces inaequale is recognized as the second species in the genus, and differs from the type species, W. verruculosus, in possessing naviculiform, obclavate to ellipsoidal, smooth, larger conidia in unbranched acropetal chains. The hyphomycetes Rhexoacrodictys queenslandica and Solicorynespora sylvatica are reported from China for the first time. A key to Arachnophora species is provided.

    Fibrodontia alba sp. nov. is described from central Taiwan. Its major diagnostic features are white, minutely and densely aculeate hymenial surface, colorless generative hyphae, colorless, in mass pale colored, narrow, moderately encrusted skeletal-like hyphae in aculeal trama and ellipsoid basidiospores. Bayesian inference of the phylogeny based on internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and partial 28S nuclear ribosomal RNA gene sequences showed that phylogenetic distance between F. alba and F. gossypina is near equal to the distance between morphologically well-delimited species, F. gossypina and F. brevidens. Morphology description, basidiomata photographs, micromorphology drawings and scanning electron microscopic images of crystalline deposits on skeletal-like hyphae, are provided for the new species. A key to the all known species of Fibrodontia is provided.

    We describe three new species of Fulvifomes from Thailand, all of which grow on Xylocarpus granatum, a major mangrove tree species in southeastern Asia. Fulvifomes xylocarpicola sp. nov. is characterized by the perennial and sessile basidiocarps, woody context without a distinct crust, pores 4–6/mm, a dimitic hyphal system both in the context and trama, broadly ellipsoid basidiospores measuring 4–5.5 × 3.5–4.5 μm, and occurrence on the stem of X. granatum. Fulvifomes siamensis sp. nov. is characterized by the perennial and sessile basidiocarps, woody context without a crust, pores 7–8/mm, a monomitic hyphal system in the context, subglobose basidiospores measuring 4.5–6 × 4–5 μm, and occurrence on the root or butt of X. granatum. Fulvifomes halophilus sp. nov. is characterized by perennial, sessile basidiocarps, leathery to corky context with a crust near the pileus surface, pores 5–8/mm, a subdimitic hyphal system in the context, subglobose basidiospores measuring 4–5.5 × 3.5–5 μm, and occurrence on the root or butt of X. granatum. Fulvifomes mangrovicus comb. nov. is proposed for Fomes mangrovicus. A key to the worldwide species of Fulvifomes is provided.

    Three new species of Tilletia are described from species of Eriachne (Poaceae) in the arid tropics of north-western Australia. In Western Australia, T. mactaggartii sp. nov. infects E. burkittii, and T. geeringii sp. nov. infects E. festucacea. Tilletia marjaniae sp. nov. infects E. pulchella subsp. dominii in Western Australia and the Northern Territory. These species are the first records of Tilletia on Eriachne. Phylogenetic relationships of these species were inferred from internal transcribed spacer of ribosomal RNA region and large subunit ribosomal RNA gene sequences.

    The nematophagous fungus Esteya vermicola, strain NKF 13222, was purified from an isolate of Bursaphelenchus rainulfi which was intercepted from wood packaging materials originating in Brazil and arriving at Tianjin port in China. The fungus produced two types of conidiogenous cells and conidia, each with different germination modes. More lunate adhesive conidia than bacilloid conidia were produced on nutrient-poor water agar medium. Morphological comparisons revealed the NKF 13222 strain closely resembled the Taiwan strain E. vermicola (ATCC 74485) previously isolated from the pinewood nematode B. xylophilus. Phylogenetic analysis of the β-tubulin and elongation factor 1-α genes indicated that the NKF 13222 grouped with other strains of E. vermicola including the Taiwan strain. This was the first record of E. vermicola from B. rainulfi in South America. Infection tests demonstrated that NKF 13222 was more infective to aphelenchid than tylenchid nematodes and that only lunate adhesive conidia were infectious. The results suggest that the fungus might be a pathogen of plant parasitic nematodes with a broad distribution and provide new information for the potential biocontrol of plant diseases caused by B. xylophilus, Aphelenchoides spp. and Ditylenchus destructor.

    Considering that the knowledge of Pleurotus in Brazil is very dispersed and fragmented, this work presents for the first time a discussion of the recognition of at least five species certainly known from the country. Maximum likelihood analysis was conducted with nrITS sequences to generate a phylogenetic tree with a better resolution, confirming the occurrence of P. albidus, P. djamor, P. fuscosquamulosus, P. pulmonarius, and P. rickii in Brazil. In addition, we present a list of all epithets that were recorded from Brazil and current update of their taxonomic status.

    Based on morphological characteristics and molecular phylogeny, a rust fungus on Salix hsinganica, S. sinica, S. starkeana, S. wallichiana and S. xerophila in China is described as a new species, Melampsora salicis-sinicae. This new species morphologically resembles M. capraearum and M. epiphylla in having subcuticular teliospores with a thickened apical wall, but it differs from these two species in its amphigenous telia. In addition, this new species differs from M. capraearum in its slender teliospores and thinner apical thickness of teliospores, and it also differs from M. epiphylla in the dimension of urediniospores, the position of teliospores and the apical thickness of teliospores. Phylogenetic analyses using partial sequences of the D1/D2 region of nuclear large subunit and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS1 and ITS2) regions including 5.8S of ribosomal RNA gene and the translation elongation factor 1 alpha (EF-1α) gene revealed that this rust fungus was distinct from its morphologically similar species, M. capraearum and M. epiphylla.

    Entoloma luteofuscum sp. nov. is described from Kerala State, India and is assigned to subgenus Nolanea. Comprehensive description, photographs, and comparisons with phenetically similar and phylogenetically related species are provided. Inferences of its phylogenetic relationships within the genus are provided based on the sequences of nuclear internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region.

    Boletus edulis is a well-known ectomycorrhizal mushroom. Although cultivation has been widely attempted, no artificial fruiting has been achieved owing to difficulties associated with mycorrhizal synthesis and acclimatization in fields. We collected fifteen B. edulis basidiomata samples from locations in Japan and identified them microscopically and by phylogenetic analysis of their nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions. Pure culture isolates of B. edulis were established efficiently on malt extract agar medium, and one isolate, EN-63, was inoculated to axenic Pinus densiflora seedlings in vitro. Brownish ectomycorrhizal tips were observed on the pine lateral roots within four months of inoculation. Ten pine seedlings that formed ectomycorrhizae were acclimatized under laboratory and greenhouse conditions. At four months after transplant, mycorrhizal colonization by B. edulis was observed on newly grown root tips under laboratory conditions, but no B. edulis ectomycorrhiza survived under greenhouse conditions. These results suggest that B. edulis ectomycorrhizae synthesized in vitro with P. densiflora requires additional steps for acclimatization to greenhouse conditions.
