Historically, the area which supplied the city with fresh vegetables or fish expanded as transportation progressed. Then, how did this ares expand?
Using the contributions of fish by fishermen to the Lord (Edo Bakufu) as the indicator of the growth, the writer divides the development of the area into the follwing three stages:
1) The early stage of development. (In Tsukudaura, Osai 8 kaura, Kasairyo uratsuki association, Isotsuki 18 villages.)
2) The stage of expansion. (In Nishi 44 kaura, Higashi 40 kaura.)
3) The stage of full maturity.
Thus, the villages near the month of Tokyo Bay have developed in fishery, in contrast with the commercialization of the area in the bosom of the bay.
