The projects of rural resettlement have been carried out in Sawauchi Basin, on the east of Ou Mountains in the Northeastern Japan. The purposes of this project are the removing the houses to convenient locations along the local highways and the raising the productivity on agriculture by changing the residence lot to the cultivated land. The most characteristic point of this project is considered as follows;
1) This project is planned on many activities of inhabitants on their improvements of way of living.
2) By improvements on the new mechanization of agricultural management, they aim at the modernization of life and productivity on the agriculture.
This project have been carried mainly in the field of way-of-life improvement of the inhabitants and fifty families have moved to the new planned area that contains a park and an assembly hall, and seven families to the other areas. Many of them had been resided near the new planned residential area and the ones in heavy snow area.
In the field of productivity improvement, main effort are focused on two cattle stations and four frames of Shiitake (a kind of mushroom) production, but the improvements of agricultural management systems, especially in rice production which is one of the important aims of this project, have been failed.
Twenty four families do not take part in this project now. They are based on the following two reasons; (1) long distance between their own cultivated land and the new planned residential area, and (2) ever-changing policy of the agricultural authority towards rice production.
