  • CD-ROMマスタリング技術

    Data storage type of CD including CD-ROM is now widespread. The reason for the spread is that CD has an expansive capasity of about 500Mbytes and a good cost performance for memory. In this paper, the process of CD manufacturing is briefly described, at first. Then CD-ROM mastering techniques with very accurate and very fine processing are explaind. And availabilities of in-ine type mastering system are touched upon briefly. Lastly the mastering techniques in DVD as high density optical disc are studied.

    The manufacturing processes of CD-ROM, especially injection molding, sputtering reflection layer, coating protection layer, and disc visual inspection, are described, and examples of CD-ROM manufacturing system are introduced. The difficult point of shortening cycle time of CD-ROM injection molding is to keep birefringence and pits replication in the specification, It is explained how to set molding conditions in order to get good characteristics of discs when the molding cycle time is shortened. Moreover, the difficulties and countermeasures about molding high density disc are described.

    The principle, structure and required performance, of CD-R (Recordable) have been described, The structure and manufacturing process have been firstly explained as comparing with CD and the principle of signal Write/Read have been described. The specification of CD-R was decided as Orange Book Part 2 proposed by SONY and PHILIPS. The performance of CD-R depends on the groove shape of substrate, type of the dye, thickness the of dye layer and so on. Finally actual required performances of CD-R, like a initial Write/Read, compatibility and durability, have been described.

    With the progress of the multimedia information system, storage devices need to become larger capacity and a low cost. CD-ROM system has become a computer memory popularly and has been desired to provide a erasable function. Recently an erasable CD was proposed. It has a function of reading CD-ROM and also CD-R. It will meet the need of a multimedia database file and a backup file of CD-ROM.

    In 1990, 5. 25 “mageneto-optical disk (MO) was released on the market, conforming to ISO standard. After that, 5.25 MO has been steadily growing up and doing a great deal as a file-server application for workstation so called auto-changer. On the other hand, right after 3.5” MO (230MB) following 128MB had been introduced, 3.5 “MR market has been rapidly becoming popular due to reasonable prices and inprovements of drive functions. The future status of 3.5” MO whose maket expantion is expected is mainly described including the technologies for higher recording density.

    A direct plate-making process for offset printing using melt-type thermal transfer technology by laser heating is investigated. A high definition image can be obtained because the laser light is focused into very small spot of three microns in diameter. Zinc Oxide-binder polymer layer coated on the polymer film was used for the master plate for offset printing. Polyester and polyvinylbutyral polymers were used as binder polymer. The ink layer consisting of carbon black powder and wax in the donor sheet was exposed to laser light and transferred to ZnO master plate for offset printing. The high definition and good quality image was obtained under the recording condition which the laser power and pulse width are 30mW and from 60 to 80 microseconds, respectively. Zinc Oxide- Polyvinylbutyral master plate exhibited the good printability for offset printing due to low contact angle with water. The durability of this plate for offset printing was more than 1, 700 prints.

    A dry-filmed photoresist material composed of three layers, a peel-off support, a water-soluble peeling layer, and a positive-type photoresist layer arranged in this order has been prepared. A process for the formation of a resist-pattern which comprised of laminating the photoresist layer on the substrate (e. g. silicon wafer) under heating and pressure, peeling off the peel-off support of the material, imagewisely exposing the photoresist layer and developing the material was discussed. In addition, the dry-filmed photoresist material was also able to form the resist-pattern on a substrate with an uneven surface without poor transfer due to bubbles and so on. The reasons of the formation of the resist-pattern on the substrate with an uneven surface were discussed on the basis of the analysis of material's thermal behaviors.

    A trifunctional vinyl ether urethane monomer (TVU) was synthesized from toluene 2, 4-diisocyanate (TDI), 2-hydroxyethylvinyl ether and 1, 1, 1-tris (hydroxymethyl) propane (THMP). The photoresponsivity of two-component layer consisting of TVU and iodonium 8-anilinonaphthalene-1-sulfonate (DPI·ANS) was discussed. A study using several polymer matrices to incorporate TVU into chemical amplification photoresists in the presence of photoacid generator is presented. Poly-(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA), poly-(methylmethacrylate-co-acrylic acid) (P (MMA-co-AA)), poly (p-hydroxystyrene) (PHS) were used as the polymer matrices. Results from type variations of the polymer matrix, composition ratio variations in photoresist and changes of the process condition gave insights into the characteristic behaviors of the photoresist systems.

    Digitalization of images has enabled images to be stored in computers as image database. Image database is effective in maintaining a high image-quality and reduce the number of prepress processes as well. Image processing techniques for magnification/rotation or compression of images are technically important in forming image database. Managing the image database requires the establishment of methods to construct structures for files. Creating database that integrates both images and texts facilitates not only to advance the prepress processes, but also to support cliants to actively engage in their marketing.
