  • 高速ネットワークの構成と利用

    A high-speed access network is essential for broadband Internet service. The access network is known as the “last mile” and up to now telephone line has been used. Broadband technology that can use the access network include ADSL, CATV, FTTH (Fiber To The Home) and WLL (Wireless Local Loop). CATV has been in use for some time. ADSL is the broadband technology that is currently experiencing a rapid increase in popularity. It is thought that FTTH will become the favorite broadband service of the future. The use of WLL for Internet access is also expected to increase.

    This article reports recent information technology for contents distribution over broadband networks. The article explains general composition of information systems for contents distribution, in addition to relationship between business entity and the systems. Also, the article introduces recent copy preventive technology which is increasing its importance to promote contents distribution.

    Recently penetration of personal computer has caused certsin progress for digital memory and peripheral storage. And also the launch of digital services for satellite and terrestrial broadcasting has been causing an integrated service for several multimedia services, including video, audio and data services. Additionally broadband internet services recently showing a quick spread have been causing convergence of communication and broadcasting. These phenomena will give some influence on printing industry in near future. So some discussion was described here about what we prepare for the convergence of large capacity storage, digital broadcasting and broadband networks, and also its influence on the field of printing industry.

    Recently digital technology has been developing very rapidly. Efforts have been concentrated on computer-, internet-, and database-technology. The Internet infrastructures based on the broad band have just been established last year and, in the near future, they are expected to be more stable and advanced to higher levels. For several years, Kosaido Co., Ltd. has been developing a variety of technology and contents productions concerned with the digital archive of cultural heritage and its applications. In this paper we describe our concept and some examples of our products. We anticipate that advances in digital technology will greatly improve the relevant media.

    The important factor of the ebook market isn't just merely to sell digitalized books, but to provide services that insure the same enjoyment readers get from reading books. As we all know, books are not necessities in life. Therefore, ebooks must guarantee enjoyment in its use. Otherwise, people would not have any incentive to try to read. Furthermore, no matter how practical the contents are, difficulties in reading due to LCD quality and PC use would hinder the ebook market. Due to services obtained by using cellular phones, it is obvious why cellular phones have become popular among younger generations. Instead of going to a bookstore to buy a book, people using ebooks can acquire the similar on the go services as cellular phones. We will start offering “ebook service” that anyone can read anywhere, anytime. We believe that providing this kind of ebook service is a better way than selling books one by one.

    To construct a new publishing system using PC and large-sized printer that can produce high quality printed matters comprising text, charts, and illustrations, etc, a novel coding method is needed to ensure the quality of decoded images even on Affine-transformed enlargement or reduction. Conventional coding methods, however, cannot claim to have satisfied such a requirement. This paper proposes an algorithm for encoding and decoding binary images by adaptively approximating the contours using Fluency functions in the form of straight lines, arcs, and curved lines that were proposed by one of the authors. Also, in this paper, we derives compactly supported sampling function of degree 2 to approximate curved lines with accuracy and simplicity. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of our proposed coding method, we implemented a publishing system on a PC. Using this system, we compared our method and the MMR format in terms of the visual quality of decoded images and compression ratio based on the CCITT test documents. From the experimental results, we demonstrate that the quality of the decoded images was also maintained without the jaggy noises even on resizing. Furthermore signboards produced by our publishing system have actually been used in several live events.

    Although polysilanes have attracted considerable attention as a new class of functional polymers characterized by their silicon backbone chain, unfortunately, there have been no examples of their practical use. In our research group, we have proposed many novel and potential applications of polysilanes focusing on the nature of their UV photodecomposition, which forms the Si-O-Si and Si-OH bonds due to UV photodecomposition in air, and thereby induces spatially selective material modifications with specific property changes such as electrical insulation, refractive index, and more chemically, surface wettability and swelling effect for aqueous solution, and chemical reactivity so on, only in the UV irradiated portion of the films. In this paper, several applications utilizing various property changes of polysilane films by UV photodecomposition were introduced.

    It is said that printing paper on which letters, pictures and photographs are printed is communication media of information and knowledge. As printing technology has been improved, many kinds of printing paper has been developed. At present, a lot of printing paper is distributed and its use is expanding. Recently, since printing contents are changing from monochrome to color image like photo, demand of coated paper that can provide print image with high quality is increasing. This paper presents an outline of use, quality and characteristics of four types of printing paper, that are non-coated paper, coated paper, light-weight-coated paper and special printing paper.
