The market of digital still cameras (DSCs) is growing dramatically and they are superseding conventional film cameras even in the printing workflow. This report briefly explains the color management method to realize better color reproduction by optimizing the color correction matrix and spectral distribution function of input devices and also describes the limitation of this optimization within the actual DSC system. Color-imetric measurement concerning the precision of a real DSC product on the market has shown an example of the ability of the color management in DSCs and some hints for the correction within the output systems to get better results will be shortly discussed.

In recent years, the printing process has been digitized, DDCP (Direct Digital Color Proofing) has become widely used with introduction of CTP (Computer to Plate). Today, the movement toward standardization of printing is active. Color standards such as Japan Color and JMPA Color have been used as a color target of DDCP. In addition some printing companies set up the standard conditions of press printing and match the color of DDCP to that of press printing. Thus, although DDCP has become widely used, it is not still easy to achieve the accurate color matching. This paper describes the present condition and issues with regard to the color management in DDCP after organizing the requirements for DDCP and the fundamentals of DDCP.

Recently the necessity of Color management has been increased by wide acceptance of digital camera. The usage of digital camera meets demands of clients and publishers for lower cost reproduction and shorter production time, and is going to change the CMYK based workflow to new RGB based workflow. Color management for new workflow becomes an important subject to implement RGB workflow with maintaining image quality in print production. This article gives an explanation of current color management system in DTP, and introduces the new color management which maintain image quality for RGB based workflow with Dainippon Screen's color management engine.

Pre-press workflow has been extremely changed as to the progress of Digital technology. The progress of digital technology helps to stabilize the quality of printing as well as reduce waste and increase productivity. As printing processes changed from analog to digital and with the advent of various color output devices the importance of color management has increased furthermore. In this paper I will explain the practical side of color management in printing.

The age softening phenomenon at room temperature that the copper electrodepostits obtained from a copper sulfide plating solution containing a hardener was studied using hardness and SIM measurements. The surface crystal orientation of the electrodeposits was examined by XRD and the determination of impurity atom in the electrodeposits was examined by the combustion method. It was found that the hardness fall according to the increment of the grain size by self-annealing. This phenomenon is called the “age softening” in this paper. The age softening could be inhibited by adding a polymer containing nitrogen in a concentration of more than 50mg/L to the plating solution. It was suggested that the inhibition of the age softening phenomenon is attributable to the amount of impurity (ex. hydrogen atom) in the electorodeposits. At the present the mechanism for this phenomenon has not be completely understood. Adding the polymer containing nitrogen weakened the orientation 100 of electrodeposits. The grain growth of crystal on the surface perpendicular to the ‹100› direction was observed by the age softening.

Computer-to-plate technology embraced by today's printing industry for its productivity and profitability benefits represents the next logical step in the transition to an all-degital work-flow. The development of CTP plate has been progressed by all plate makers using either technology based on silver halide, electrophotograghy, high-speed photopolymer, negative type thermal-polymer and positive type thermal-polymer. Fundamental information of the above CTP plates will be described with the general structure, mechanism of image formation, process of image formation and performance.
