    Ink-jet technology has been used for not only printing industry but also printable electronics, flat panel display and other applications. Key technologies of ink-jet printing are ink design, printer system (hard and soft ware) and media. Design of Ink-jet inks formulated by functional materials is very important in the fabrication of color filter for LCD, EL display, solar cell, sensor and micro lens et al. Technological trend of ink-jet ink is briefly shown by the research report of the Patent Office in 2004. And the fundamental formula of free-radical and cationic polymerization type UV curable ink-jet ink without solvent was described from a viewpoint of the adhesion on non-porous substrates. The advantages of UV ink-jet are rapid curing, no-VOC, and adhesion on non-porous substrates. UV ink-jet is one of current trends in industrial ink-jet market.

    In this article, a new stereolithography involving the separate use of liquid photoinitiator and a base resin (photopolymer resin without photoinitiator) is explained. First, the base resin is supplied as a layer, and then a mask pattern is drawn onto the surface with photoinitiator by inkjet printing. When the surface is exposed to a UV lamp, only the pattern drawn with the photoinitiator is cured. In this process, the photoinitiator acts as a positive mask. Also, the idea of multiple-layer exposure, which may enable stair step reduction and fabrication time reduction, is introduced. The proposed idea and method are implemented in an experimental stereolithography system and some experiments are conducted using the system. As a result, the effectiveness and feasibility of the idea and method are confirmed.

    The development of the recent ink jet printing technology is remarkable for the quality of printing. It has the imaging quality as well as photograph has. Dye has been used for ink so far. However, dye has weak points about tolerance to water and color fastness to light. It is the driving force to change dye inks to pigment inks. However, the needs of the water based pigment inks decrease to develop UV inks or Solvent inks. In addition, the improvements of fastness to light for dye have promoted the decreasing. A turning point comes for the water based pigment inks. This paper describes such a situation of the water based pigment inks.

    The world of ink jet printing has been progressed into systems to be a tool of manufacturing for industrial components or parts. The high end of ink jet system can be called micro pump as it is not only to deposit ink to the substrate but also able to handles many functional fluid. Since one of the current problems is head rely on the designing ink which limits the capability. New system in the future should handle wider range of fluid in order to make the ideas happen that do not exist at the current world. The challenges include material used with the jetting head and fluid supply system, dimensional accuracy and technology to handle it. In few years ink jet technology will take some part of diversified industries.

    The digital stencil duplicating system is a print method with low environmental impact. In this study, the environmental impact was quantitatively evaluated by inventory analysis of life cycle. For the life cycle inventory analysis, used was the hybrid of Input - Output Analysis and Process Analysis, which is the most advanced method for calculating environmental impact. By this hybrid method, the environmental impact of digital stencil duplicating system was calculated efficiently and accurately. The major conclusions ate: (1) Owing to the long life span of the digital stencil duplicator, the CO2 emission per sheet of printing paper (B4 side) is as low as 0.54 g. And thus, it is quantitatively proved that the digital stencil duplicating system is such a system that gives low environmental impact. (2) The quantity of CO2 emitted from the digital stencil duplicating system is mainly out of the printing paper. (3) The quantity of CO2 emitted out of ink made of soybean oil is roughly the same as that out of ink made of mineral oils, taking no account of the quantity of CO2 absorbed by the soybean during its growth period.
