The electronic tag is one of the electronic media for the wireless communication technology to combine the real world with the virtual as the internet. It is expected to be one of the core technologies for prospective ubiquitous society. We expect the evolution of the printing technology will contribute to reduce costs and to grow at popular stage of the electronic tag. We describe the application of printing technology to the electronic tag manufacturing and the challenge for the future.
Practicable applications of RFID have been introduced one after another. Key for further expansion is cost reduction of component devices. Method of producing the circuit and antenna is classified into 3. Among them is formation of circuitry by conductive inks which may lead to considerable cost down. This report describes performance of PET and Paper RF-tag for UHF formed by conductive inks.
Patterning of nonmagnetic pearl pigments using magnetic field modulator composed of a ferromagnetic material and a nonmagnetic material was studied. Pearl pigments were dispersed in a UV resin and the dispersion was coated on a PET film. The coated film was set on a magnetic field modulator made of an etched stainless steel plate, and then exposed to a horizontal magnetic field (3 tesla) . The pearl pigments in the coating resin moved along the distribution of magnetic flux density induced by the magnetic field modulator. A pattern of the pigments was formed following the pattern of magnetic field modulator. The achieved pattern was fixed by UV curing. It was found by observation of a microscope and spectrum photometry that the manner of patterning depends on the magnetic susceptibility of the pigment composition. A new method proposed here for patterning pearl pigments is unique and will be applied to a print with design and to a watermark for anti-counterfeit.
Tohoku RICOH Company developed a new duplex printing machine with our four original technologies (1:Technology of Satelio master plate 2: Technology of two sided images on one master plate 3: Technology of blur free beads roller 4: Technology of high speed duplex paper handling), and released it as Satelio DUO 8 in March, 2007. We succeeded in developing the blur free technology to overcome the problem of ink stain. In this paper we present the technology of blur free beads coated roller.
