Accessible design addresses the needs of older persons and persons with disabilities. It focuses on the principles of extending standard designs for use by people with some type of performance limitation to maximize the number of potential customers who can readily use a product, building, or service. Dissemination of accessible design is a global interest in the 21st century which can be characterized as below. (1)Trend of ageing The survey "Population Ageing 2006" conducted by the United Nation in 228 countries shows the worldwide trend of ageing. In 2006, 688 million people in the world were 60 years or older, and by 2050 almost two billion people will be 60 years or over. (2)Social participation of physically handicapped people "The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" was adopted by the United Nations and became effective in May 2008. Special remarks are given in the convention to promote universal⁄accessible design as follows: ··· undertake or promote research on and development of universally designed goods, services, equipment, and facilities. In the light of the increase in the older population and promotion of the human rights for physically handicapped people, accessible design needs to be taken into consideration by manufacturers in every field.

It is important to understand the visual characteristics of the elderly and to develop the color design tools for aging and aged societies. In addition, we should make consideration to color vision deficiency in color printing. In the present review, I formulated age-related changes of vision and color vision deficiency, and introduce a simulation method of human crystalline lens of the elderly for young people and the validity of the method by referring experimental results and a color vision simulator which enables us to simulate elderly vision and dichromat vision. For the elderly vision simulation, we proposed a color appearance model of the elderly taking account of "color constancy with aging". In addition, we assumed that only M-cone for protanopia or only L-cone for deuteranope contributes to the luminance channel, and calculated "effective luminance." Finally, we show the effectiveness and the impact of our multiple color vision simulator system in implementation of color Universal Design of printing.

Recently in Japan, aging of population structure has been going on, and then people with impaired vision, such as presbyopia or cataract are rapidly increasing due to physical depression, accompanied by aging, as well as low vision or impaired color vision which are typical visual impairments. These social situations have resulted in the requirement for the development of "Universal Design Font".The Universal Design Font differs from any other conventional fonts in its design concept, which focused on its usage as display font and designed it with a due consideration to the concept of universal design.

apan has been recognized as an advanced country of Universal Design(UD). Especially Japanese UD products in automobile, home electronics and house equipments have been well- known and enjoyed good reputations in the world. UD packages of more near-at-hand foods and daily commodities are progressively advancing recently and we can see some UD-considered packages even at the supermarkets and the convenience stores. The original functions of packages themselves are to protect products, to inform contents information and to boost it's usability. The evolutions of packaging technologies have allowed mass distributions and self-service merchandising methods. On the top of that the market requires packages more easy to use and understand endlessly. High value added packages by using UD which can improve its amenity and comfort are now requested and can reach people's sensitivity and emotion. Good UD packages from user's point of view will be able to improve not only its product values but also brand and company images.

In order to evaluate the penetration of UV curable ink vehicle into the blanket, ultimately it was important to observe the distribution of the acrylate monomer that penetrated fastest into the blanket. The penetration of an acrylate monomer into blankets was investigated by using confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM). In order to detect the penetration with CLSM, an oil-soluble dye(Macrolex Yellow 6G)was added to the acrylate monomer. The cleaning solvent for the blanket was stained with Acridine Yellow. The penetration of the acrylate monomer into blankets could be rapidly and minutely estimated with the CLSM stain technique. Moreover, distribution of the acrylate monomer in the blanket after blanket cleaning could be observed in detail. The acrylate monomer could not be removed from within the blanket after blanket cleaning. In addition, the penetrations of acrylate monomer into the transfer rollers before and after surface treatment were compared by the CLSM stain technique. As a result, the penetration rate of the acrylate monomer into the roller after surface treatment decreased by half.
