The development of printing technology has been closely linked to the development of school education. Now, with the introduction of ICT (Information and Communication Technology), such as digital textbooks and tablet terminals, new transformations are taking place in the connection between printing technology and school education. In this paper, I consider these transformations from the viewpoint of education and printing culture in the era of active learning. In the dynamic information environment provided by ICT, it is difficult to stop considering or thinking over things carefully (interrupting activities), and also difficult to deepen discussion and thought by postponing the conclusion (postponement or repetition). Such interruption of activities and postponement and repetition of thinking are often possible by printed papers that can provide a static information environment. It is at this point that new importance is given to the printing culture. Therefore, in the age of active learning there is a possibility of giving a new meaning to the printing culture.

Textbooks are printed books; therefore, advances in printing and bookbinding techniques have improved the appearance and design of them. In addition, contents learned in school have greatly changed over a long period of time and assistive materials and the measures of presentation have also been updated. In spite of an increasing share of digital textbooks, paper textbooks will remain in the mainstream of learning. In the future, both paper and digital textbooks will be further developed and used to pursue an improved understanding of students by collaboration and mutual complement.

The current situation of ICT education in Japan was summarized in relation to specific examples of utilization of ICT in class, the frequency in which ICT is utilized, the implementation of an ICT environment in classrooms, trends in digital textbooks, and the next ministry's curriculum guideline. The issues and future prospects of Japan were discussed through reviewing the utilization of ICT in foreign countries for comparison.

Visual awareness in proofreading performed by Indonesian elementary school students in the 4th to 6th grades was surveyed and compared in terms of media, grade, and task. The number of misspelled words the students successfully found was not significantly different between the media, that is, the same documents printed on paper and displayed on tablet, but it was significantly different among the school grades and between the two tasks with different texts. In the analysis of variance, more attention was paid to misspelling patterns. Out of the three patterns: substitute, add⁄eliminate, and order change, the former two provided significantly larger numbers of misspelled words found on paper than on tablet. Between a different pair of misspelling patterns: simply misspelled words and similarly spelled other words, paper obtained a favorable result, that is, the significantly higher ratio of finding the latter misspelling pattern. This suggests that there is a possibility that attractive multiple functions typical of tablets might distract children's attention.

Today, many of the public and school libraries in the countryside face a lot of problems. First, it becomes difficult to run such libraries because of depopulation and treatment of "the weak in information," who have difficulty in visiting libraries or have disabilities. In addition, it is necessary to formulate a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) that prevents local cultural materials from being damaged by disasters and to make efficient use of them at any time. In this paper, we propose constructing a cloud-based electronic library called "Interactive Digital Library" (IDL) to solve these problems. This system enables libraries to reduce running costs, enrich their collections, improve accessibility to information, maintain local cultural materials, and offer these facilities to many people who want to use them.

Japan Printing Academy (JPA) is a vocational school for printing expertise and was established 39 years ago. At the time of establishment, approximately 100 students were affiliated with JPA. I was informed only three years ago of a sudden decrease in the number of students over the past dozen years or so. This was the initiation of my involvement in JPA. Now, in the third year of my principal career, "ownership synchronized with the change of the times" is the main theme in our curriculum motivated by the aim at fostering the next generations of printing companies together with experienced and new staff members. This article introduces our successor education, output-emphasized educational method, and printing technology education with practices.

The study aims to find out the results of art paper products using recycled paper with strain engineering and adhesives PVAC. Besides aiming to get the proportion of raw materials and concentration of appropriate adhesive to produce art paper that had the best sensory quality. The research method used was fesis test material with Random Design. Fesis test research results showed that the proportion of raw materials and adhesives PVAC concentration significantly affect the color, surface texture, fiber appearance, yield and tensile resilience, and was not significantly different between the treatment of grammage and tear resistance. The screen-printing technique was chosen as a way of printing paper because besides tractable way too cheap. Although it is considered old-fashioned way, but it proved still fit for use in papermaking, especially art paper.

Objective of this paper is to investigate the usefulness of four open source free software for prepress work of printing industries in India. For this study four free software chosen, which are Scribus (Version 1.4.5), Inkscape (Version 0.91), GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Programme - Version - 2.8.18) and Krita (Version - 2.9.11) as substitutes of four proprietary software those are not free and generally used for prepress work of printing industries in India. Scribus used as the substitute of Adobe PageMaker and Adobe InDesign, Inkscape used as the substitute of CorelDraw, GIMP and Krita used as the substitute of Adobe Photoshop. For this study author has followed different steps, first one was study the opinions, article about the mentioned free software published in Internet, second step was, done some jobs using the free and proprietary software and generated PDF and JPG output by three operators, third was got the operators and author's opinions cum observations and fourth was done the printing by conventional offset lithography and digital printing process and last was asses the print quality by ten general observers. Results showed that free software may be used for printing industries with some limitations.

Rendering the management and logistics to be more eco-friendly is an innovative idea progressively adopted by industry. Consequently, our research focuses on the reduction of CO2 emissions of a printed book by relating to printing press management. Our proposed tool is able to model a production management policy relevant to the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) indicators. This method was applied to Chulalongkorn University Printing House. The study aimed to develop printing press management using Total Preventive Management (TPM to improve "eco-friendly" printed products.

Polysilanes, which have the backbone of a Si-Si bond, are susceptible to photodegration by UV-irradiation. The resulting silyl radicals exhibit interesting reactivity towards a number of substrates. It is well known that polysilanes photoinitiate the polymerization of alkenes. Herein, we have investigated the application of polysilanes as an initiator of UV-curing inks. The evaluations of the UV-curing inks were examined using the spectroscopic and mechanical property measurements. These results indicated that the addition of polysilanes to UV-curing inks brought improvement of the printing qualities, such as blocking strength of printed matter and the amount of set-off ink. We have shown that polysilanes are potentially useful as a photopolymerization initiator for UV-curing inks.

The unique recording system with the multi-frequency AOM (Acousto-Optic Modulator) was researched and developed. The multi-frequency AOM has useful multiple functions, for example, dividing one laser beam into plural beams, modulations, and corrections of beam positions along the sub-scan direction. Although the multi-frequency AOM produces significant benefits to the recording system as listed above, at the same time there are some drawbacks, such as heterodyne interference, 3rd order intermodulation, change of diffraction efficiency by number of diffracted beams, and image position shifts by the relative position between the image signals and the beat waves. These arise and need to be solved by optimizing the system design, fully considering the characteristics of the recording material. In this paper, we explain how to overcome the drawbacks and demonstrate that the system has achieved the fastest recording speed in the drum capstan exposure systems of imagesetters area, and also, the image quality suitable for commercial printing market.
