Transformation of surface, back, and innerside of paper under the compressive stress were studied with their resistance to air flow. The velocity of air flow were separately measured about the paper which was covered one or the other side by contact sheet. The deformation of these three sides caused by the compressive stress were respectively estimated by the change of the velocity of air flow.
The velocity of air which flows between the paper surface and polished metal plate with etched helical lines which act as air path was compared with that flows between the paper surface and polished flat metal plate to obtain the quantitative value of roughness of paper surface.
The roughness thus numerically expressed in this study was estimated as about a half of the value calculated by the cross sectional profile which obtained by the contact needle type surface rughness meter.
