    This paper outlines the development philosophy, system architecture and facilities of digitalized Chinese Character pattern. It should be evident that there are two parallel developments at work, typesetting devices which are learning to process pictures, and imaging devices which are learening to compose type. These technologies are rapidly beginning to blend into one process. Progress of this development are based on digitalized technologies of information. When we consider the character typesetting, it is necessary to consider not only the character pattern processing but also the graphic and photoimage processing. This paper describes the process flow, characteristics, resolution, dot shape, of the digital character pattern, and explain in detail the full-dot, line-dot, and stroke-dot method.

    Usually, we treat many kinds of informations and we get about 80% of those informations with eyes. Our eyes detect the informations as analog values. The necessity of digitalizing an analog information is caused from abstracting the useful ones suit for the purpose among so many informations, especially, for processing images by computors. Recently, as progress of information network systems like facsimiles and copiers, office automation systems have a digital processor in them and process images as digital informations. In the fields of printing, the images are produced with ink on the paper, and then continuous tone images are reproduced as half tone images by changing dot sizes of ink. This is a kind of digital image processing. In this paper, primitive ways of digitalizing analog images are described.

    C. T. S stands for Cold Typesetting System or Computerized Typesetting System. However, C. T. S are currently used for the latter terms and necessarily involves equipments of full-pagenation make up. C. T. S provides us a great deal of effects. The United States overtook Japan in installation and development of C. T. S. Neverthless the realization of C. T. S with full-pagenation are very few yet against expection of ANPA (American Newspaper Publishers Association). In the 1970s a group of forty newspaper companies and machine suppliers aimed at the development of C. T. S, but finally resulted in resignation after seven years. Because they thought it is too eary for threw to go forward due to insufficient of fundamental technologies such as follows. (Degital input of pictures and graphics, degital output, throughput of computer, softwere of page layout or display and so on.). However, needs of full pagenation for newspaper production are so important problems, from 1981 the installations of C. T. S in newspaper companies are increasing. In Japan, computorization for all process of newspaper production since 1980 are NELSON (New Editing an Layout System Of Newspaper) and ANNECS (Automated Nikkei Newspaper Editing and Composing System). NELSON system may be first fullpagenation system. Full pagenation systems on newspaper production is already realized and recently full pagenation system on printing product is reported. This paper describes FUJITSU's approach to computerized typesetting system on newspaper production and printing production.
  • 多色網点画像とマックスウェルディスクの色差について

    The characteristics of color mixing between multicolor printing and Maxwell disks are examined through the measurement by a color difference meter, and visual-perception evaluation. Especially the effects of additive mixture of colors at the highlight part on the printing are compared with those with Maxwell disks, and the difference between them is investigated by means of H, V and C values attained by visual-perception evaluation. Therefore in measuring by the color difference meter, the differences between the multicolor printing and the Maxwell disks were small with three sorts of primary color ink below 30% at each dot percentage. The difference between them in visual-perception evaluation comes to be about 11.0 on the average in ΔE CIE (L*a*b*). In a comparative study of H, V and C values, the Maxwell disk study shows the inclination that the ΔV with the equal value of H to C within 0.5 and 1.0 from the corresponding value in multicolor printing.

    The Japanese Word Processor is popularized in recent years. This is a typical indirect input form processor which can exchange to Hiragana for Kanji input form. If you use this processor as the character composing device, you can count on speed improvement of the hand composition and proofreading. This processor can be a important part to compose Japanese character in the future. The experimentation was held with English typewriter key arrangement to examine the typesetting functions of the exchange to Kana for Kanji input form. Next, indirect input form speed and quantitative of typesetting were examined from ergonomics and dynamic evaluation points. As the result, we made key arrangement for indirect input form on an experimental basis.
