In Japanese, common nouns mean the same kind of things, while proper nouns distinguish special one from others. In novels, heroes would be called by common nouns or by proper nouns. As for "A Trolley", in the case that the hero was called just "a boy", the author imagined that boys should have thought and done so in such situation. In the other case that he was called "Ryohei", he was given special character by the author. Naming depends upon author's taste of rhetric and also their theory of literature.
