First, attention must be given to the structure of Kokoro. "Sensei "'s suicide note is indicated by "Watashi," who speaks to the "readers." "Sensei" betrays "K." "Watashi" unintentionally betrays his parents. As a result, "Watashi" is able to make another interpretation of the " Sensei"s note."Sensei " lived in ideological aestheticism and died uphoding his belief in Meiji spirit even after the Emperor's death. His "only hope" is destroyed by "Watashi," but the Meiji spirit(presented in Sensei's suicide note)is reproduced by "Watashi " in the post-Meiji era. Kokoro is theJink between "Sensei" and "watashi," "Watashi" and the readers, and Soseki and his readers.

Musashino embodies "description" and "narration." A new story is constructed on the basis of Doppo's fresh and embracing description. In the novel, Genoji, the story appears through a change in the framework of the former story, The plot of the whole work consists in this variation of the framework. The structure(the arrangement of the consciousness and the outer world) of the story is fixed by the viewpoint and perspective that are found within the new framework.

Suna no Onna by Abe Kobo has been regarded by many critics including Sasaki Kiichi as a story of the birth of a revolutionist. Using this premise, however, its connection with Kobo's later works can not be explained clearly. Furtheranalysis reveals the work as a story of the birth of a man who is free from an entrenched line of thought. From this point of view, the significance of this work is sufficiently illustrated. Abe shows the progression of thought of "the frontier " to "the inner frontier."

Ibuse Masuji wrote Sanshouo for school children it was published in the magazine titled "Shogaku Ninensei" during the period from January to March of the 15th year of Showa. In this text of Sanshouo, he makes the analogy between the salamander's outside physical demeanor,as well as its ecological characteristics, and the salamander's inner character. Because the aIuthor neglects the pursuit of the inner life of the sahlmander, this text is not highly appreciated. What is new in this text is it does not mention the reconciliation of the salamander and the frog. This text is worth discussing for the significant differences found in the revision of Sanshouo.

The theme of the pleasure of wearing a costume completely different from reality and the theme of the transmigration of the soul are often illustrated during the late Heian and Kamakura period. The people of this time were ready to accept "disguise" as a new, independent theme. During these eras, for the same reason, the stories of the boy child born out of wedlock who disguises himself as a child of another family became popular. In the monogatari world at the end of the Heian era and through the Kamakura era, a boy born out of wedlock is raised by his father's family. Mitamura Masako points out for the reasonable explanation for the rise of the paternal family system. However, there lies the contradiction that if the child is brought up by his father's family, there is no pointin his preteding to be a member of another family. As a result, the plot of monogatari is poor and weak because of this contridiction. Each monogatari during this era is based on the tension created by the attempt at resolving this contradiction. The principles of the paternal family system urged that the all plots in contemporary monogatari be changed.

In his Consideration on the Science of Practical Interpretation ,Kaito Matsuzo presents the process for understanding literature. The first stage in understanding is "pure intuition." The second is "one's own evidence," and the third is the "proof of one's own evidence." However, he does not give a concrete explanation about the way to obtain "pure intuition." Therefore his theory has been misunderstood. What Kaito means by "pure intuition" is not "insight" but rather "the state of consciousness" in the psychological term. Kaito's theory places "pure intuition" at the beginning of the reading and aims at deeper understanding. It is illustrated through this contemporary viewpoint.
