    A Case of 52-year-old housewife with drug-induced toxic epidermal necrolysis who was cured after serious clinical course was reported. The author reviewed all the reported 68 cases including his own in Japan. The reviews were given regarding age, sex, clinical symptoms, laboratory data, histological findings and the kind of causative drugs, and some comments were made.

    Hidradenoma papilliferum developed on the labia majora of a 43-year-old female was reported. The growth of the tumor was slow but continuous of 4 years’ duration. The tumor was excised completely without recurrence afterwards and showed typical findings of hidradenoma papilliferum. Discussions on the clinical features, histogenesis and clinical, histological diagnosis were stated.

    Herpes simplex virus was isolated from lesions of 23 cases of herpes simplex in Vero cells. Virus particles were demonstrated electron microscopically in Vero cells with cytopathic effect. Filamentous structures were observed in the nuclei of the cells infected with genital, gluteal and femoral lesions. Rare cases of herpes simplex infection were demonstrated additionally.

    Chromosomal studies were performed on direct tumor and lymph node preparation or peripheral blood culture from 18 patients with malignant lymphomas and malignant reticulosis cutis; 6 cases of reticulum cell sarcoma, 1 of reticuloendotheliosis, 3 of lymphosarcoma, 3 of Hodgkin’s granuloma, 1 of Reticulosarcomatose (Gottron) and reticulosis cutis (Kitamura), 3 of mycosis fungoides. Structural and numerial chromosome abnormalities were found in all 18 cases. A high incidense of chromosomal aberrations, hyperdiploidy or pseudodiploidy with marker chromosomes and tetraploidy, was found in metaphases obtained from direct tumor and lymph node preparation, but the lowest in the peripheral blood culture from the patients with reticulum cell sarcoma. In Hodgkin’s disease many cells of normal karyotype were demonstrable. Pseudodiploidy and hypodiploidy were predominant in the metaphases of lymph node cells from three cases of lymphosarcoma. In mycosis fungoides, the cells obtained from skin tumor and lymph node showed chromosome changes closely resembling those seen in reticulum cell sarcoma, but showed normal karyotype in peripheral blood culture. These findings indicate that chromosomal study may be helpful in diagnosing of the malignant lymphomas and related neoplasms.

    Peripheral nerves and small blood vessels in vitiligo vulgaris were observed using electron microscope. Biopsy specimens were obtained from depigmented regions of twenty-one vitiligo patients and for comparative studies materials from inflammatory dermatosis, ie SLE, DLE, and fixed drug eruption were also used. Degeneration of Schwann cell cytoplasm, swelling of axons, extrusion of axons from Schwann cells, and thickening and multiple replication of basement membranes of them were remarkably noticed in the peripheral nerves of vitiligo vulgaris. In the small vessels of upper dermis, there were destruction of endothelial cells and thickening of their basement membranes. These findings were almost similar to the inflammatory diseases. Therefore, it seemed that disturbance of melanosome formation and decrease of melanocytes in vitiligo vulgaris came from degeneration of the peripheral nerves and the small blood vessels.

    The response of xerotic skin to topical use of γ-oryzanol is remarkable. Problem arise in producing acne to the younger skin. The purpose of this paper is investigating direct effect of γ-oryzanol to sebaceous glands. Nineteen normal subjects applied 1% γ-oryzanol cream and placebo to the both forearm skins by the double blind methood. After one month, skin surface lipids were collected by casual level, and total lipid and lipid peroxide were estimated by the methods of oxidation and thio-burbituric acid. Total skin lipid values showed significant increase after the application of γ-oryzanol. But lipid peroxide failed significant difference.

    Allopurinol was administered to 31 patients with various forms of psoriasis, 16 being males and 15 females. The average uric acid in this group was 5.92±1.71 mg/dl, which was whithin the variation of healthy persons. Allopurinol decreased uric acid with hyperuricemia to the normal level when administration continued for 2 months. As to the course of psoriatic lesions, allopurinol produced the following results; good results in 5 cases, no change in 5 cases and worsening in 1 case. No serious side effects were observed, while 1 case showed gastrointestinal disturbances. In the discussion of hyperuricemia in psoriasis, the author considered that it depended upon the hyperproduction of uric acid in purine metabolism.

    Description was made of a method of staining sweat pores with o-phthalaldehyde which was originally described by Juhlin & Shelley. It was considered that this method is useful for the detection of perspiration and for counting the number of active sweat pores. A case of contact dermatitis due to o-phthalaldehyde was described.

    One hundred and seven specimens obtained from 100 patients having eczematous, dermatitislikelesions localized on the face were examined histonatholovically.
    The results were as follows;
    The pattern of the tissue reactions could be classified into following categories.
    1) Eczematous reactions
    2) Psoriasiform reactions
    3) Findings of melanosis Riehl
    4) Non-fixed type (this type is unable to be observed any particular features of reaction)
    5) Mixed type (plural kinds of reactions patterns are able to be observed simultaneously) Non-fixed type corresponds to the fact that these eruptions localized on the face often show atypical findings. Mixed type indicate the transitional or superimposed form of these reactions.

    1. The percutaneous absorption of 17α-desoxymethasone and its reservoir in the skin were investigated by means of an autoradiography.
    2. It was noted in subjects applied under plastic film by 30-minute, 2-hour, 8-hour and 24-hour that a considerable amount of autoradigraphic silver grains deposited in the epidermis and appendages of the skin.
    3. The drug reservoir in the skin was observed even 24 hours after the removal of the drug topically applied.
    4. The above-mentioned observations suggest that this drug is absorbed into the skin rapidly after topical application, and that the effect of the drug persists even after its removal due to its reservoir in the skin.
