Two cases of so-called rhinitis gangrenosa progressiva are presented, which appeared in 30-year-old male and in 50-year-old female. Both cases had cutaneous lesions which were not clinically diagnostic. The biopsy specimens of these cutaneous lesions showed dense diffuse infiltrate in the middle and lower dermis and subcutaneous tissue. The infiltrate was composed of mainly lymphocytes and atypical reticulo-histiocytes. The appendages were surrounded by the abnormal cells without destruction of these architecture. The autopsy findings of these cases revealed malignant reticulosis. Malignant reticulosis should be included in the spectrum of so-called rhinitis gangrenosa progressiva.

A 74-year-old farmerette developed typical clinical and histological findings of pretibial myxedema and a slightly thyroid acropathy. Laboratory studies of thyroid function revealed hypothyroidism, for example, increased TSH level, negative LATS activity, decreased T3 and T4. Acid mucopolysaccharide of dermis was suspected to be hyaluronic acid, and chondroitin sulfuric acid A, C histochemically. Topical corticosteroid therapy and topical injection of hyaluronidase were not effective but Drenison Tape was slightly useful.

Two cases of prurigo pigmentosa which appeared in a 19-year-old and a 22-year-old women were reported. The skin symptoms of both cases were compatible with those of Nagashima’s original description of the disease. The lesions of the first case were spontaneously disappeared within one year from the onset. In the second case, oral administration of sulfisomezole led to a rapid clearing of the eruption. However, cessation of the treatment brought the mild flare of the lesion with some attacks of itching.

A case of 76-year-old male with malignant lymphoma was reported. The patient was admitted because of the tumor formation on the left cheek and enlarged lymph nodes. Histological examinations of tumor and lymph nodes confirmed the diagnosis of reticulum cell sarcoma. Therapy with 60Co radiation and VEMP induced a complete remission.

A group of the employees of Japanese National Railways and their family members was affected with scabies. Treatment was done with topical application of benzyl benzoate lotion and Eurax H, bathing and cleansing of clothes and bed rooms. Sarcoptes scabiei probably from the Philippines was considered to be transmitted by clothing and bedding at the working place and the families.

A 65-year-old woman developed a reddish tumor on the forehead. The tumor was hemispheric and elastic, and had a central ulceration. Histological examination showed typical appearance of keratoacanthoma. The rapidly developing tumor on the forehead was disappeared by intramusculer injection of bleomycin totaling 240 mg in dosis.

A case of clear cell hidradenoma appeared in 58-years-old housewife on the left retroauricular was reported. She suffered from lung cancer with metastasis to the thoracic vertebrae. The tumor was resected without recurrence afterwards. Histologically, this tumor consisted of epidermoid cells and clear cells. The transformation of epidermoid cells into clear cells was observed. Adenomatous or cystic structure was not found. Glycogen granules were found in clear cells.

The phosphorylase and alkaline phosphatase activity by histochemical technic were studied on hair bulb, epithelial and connective tissue sheath in hair follicle of the patients with alopecia areata and the patients treated with L-DOPA 1 to 2 g daily. The activity of phosphorylase in hair follicle was low in the patients with alopecia areata but not in normal persons. On the other hand, a high activity of phosphorylase was shown in the patients treated with L-DOPA. The activity of alkaline phosphatase was positive in every portion of hair follicle in normal persons, but was not shown a definite differences between the patients with alopecia areata and the patients treated with L-DOPA. A histological finding showed an atrophy of hair follicle, hypertrophy of connective tissue and infiltration of lymphocytes around the hair follicles and in the upper dermis in the patients with alopecia areata.

Percutaneous absorption of topically applied tritiated betamethasone 17-benzoate gel in the intact and stripped skin of guinea pig was studied by means of an autoradiography and measurement of radioactivity in blood and excretion. In the stripped skin, dense silver deposition was observed in the epidermis, dermis and hair follicles at early stage after the application, but in the intact skin, the radioactive materials were detected in the hair follicles. Reservoir phenomenon at 4 days after removal of the gel was shown on the intact skin. Radioactivity in blood in the case of stripped skin increased more rapidly after the application compared with that of intact skin and reached at a maximum level in 1 hour. It has been suggested that topically applied betamethasone 17-benzoate is readily absorbed percutaneously in both intact and stripped skin and the reservoir of the steroid in the skin was proved in 4 days after its removal.

    1) PHA stimulated lymphocyte transformations are usually evaluated in cell culture of 72 hours. The same phenomenon can occur in short term cell culture, even in cell culture of 40 minutes PHA stimulation.
    2) In many dermatoses, lymphocyte transformations to PHA stimulation show normal percentages of blast cell, or low excluding leprosy, all cases of which show low percentages.
    3) There is a tendency that lymphocyte transformations induced by PPD as the antigen show low percentages in cases of tuberculosis cutis, and high in cases of tuberculid except lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei. The cytological forms of lymphocyte transformation in PPD and BCG stimulated cell culture show respectively macrophage like appearances and blast cell like appearances of lymphocyte to PHA. Also, cytological forms of lymphocyte transformation to the crude infiltrate obtained from culture of staphylococcus aureus are like blast cells by PHA stimulation, and those to staphylococcal vaccine (Hollister) are like macrophages.
    4) Lymphocyte transformation tests to DNCB as the antigen are negative to unsensitized subjects, and are positive to sensitized ones. No lymphocyte transformations can occur in such cases as the plasma from unsensitized subjects are added to the lymphocyte obtained from sensitized same subjects.

A statistical survey of dermatomycoses at Dermatological Clinic of Chiba University Hospital for the last ten years from 1965 to 1974 was reported. The proportion of dermatomycoses to the outpatients was 7.7% and has gradually increased since 1973. Dermatomycoses were classified to tinea (77.4%), candidiasis (12.9%), pityriasis versicolor (6.8%), sporotrichosis (1.8%) and others. The increase of candidiasis, especially intertrigo erosiva candidamycetica was remarkable. Sporotrichosis has increased recently. Causative organisms of the tinea were identified to Trichophyton rubrum (75.0%), T. mentagrophytes (19.0%), Epidermophyton floccosum (1.9%), Microsporum canis (0.9%) and M. gypseum (0.8%).
