A 77-year-old man with apocrine adenocarcinoma on the scalp was reported. Histopathologically the center of the tumor consists of some sharply demarcated lesions of basaloid cells. According to the clinical, histopathological, enzyme histochemical and electronmicroscopical findings, it is supposed that apocrine adenocarcinoma has developed from nodular apocrine hidradenoma.

A case of multiple angiolipoma appearing on both forearms, the left upper arm and the left side of the neck of a 75-year-old man was reported, together with the electron microscopic findings of its angiomatous components. Electronmicroscopically the angiomatous components of the tumor were composed of endothelial cells, pericytes, fibroblast-like cells and more undifferetiated cells. Transitional cells from those cells were also observed. From these findings and light microscopic findings it was suggested that the vascular tissue of angiolipoma was similar to those of the angioblastoma, in a narrow sense, as described by Kitamura. The PAS positive thrombi within the vascular portion which were frequently observed in angiolipoma showed partially characteristic crossbandings with an axial repeat distance of about 200Å by electron microscopic examination and were identified with fibrin.

A 19-year-old woman developed sebaceous epithelioma in a nevus sebaceus which had been situated on her nose since birth. The authors supposed that sebaceous epithelioma is differentiated from sebaceous adenoma and basal cell epithelioma histopathologically. The development of sebaceous epithelioma derived from nevus sebaceus might be accelerated by radiotherapy and solid carbon dioxide therapy performed in infancy. We recognized that the early removal of nevus sebaceus is a very beneficial treatment.

Five cases of rosacea-like dermatitis and three cases of perioral dermatitis were reported. These cases were all female, and were aged 28-53. In the cases of rosacea-like dermatitis fluorinated corticosteroids were applied for 3-15 years, as under-cosmetics in 3 cases. In another 3 cases, hypersensitive disposition of vasomotor nerve was revealed. In the cases of perioral dermatitis, corticosteroids were applied for 6-12 months. Those cases were treated by the local application of hydrocortisone butyrate ointment and boric acid zinc oxide ointment, and the oral administration of vitamin B2, pantethine and tetracycline. Capillary dilatations were treated by electrolysis. It was considered that the appearance of rosacea-like dermatitis and perioral dermatitis was related to the patient’s degree of seriousness, and especially in the cases of rosacea-like dermatitis it was closely related to the method and the duration of corticosteroids application, and that the capillary dilatation and the atrophy of skin were due to the pharmacological effect of corticosteroids.

A year ago, a 57-year-old woman noted on her right hip a reddish scaly patch, which expanded into a tumor. After receiving a skin biopsy in a hospital, the tumor immediately began growing much larger. At first sight we suspected Bowen carcinoma but after operation it turned out to be Bowen disease. In this article we discussed Bowen disease and Bowen carcinoma, when they form a tumor or a nodule, out of cases which have been reported in Japan.

    1) Zinc content was studied in various regions and layers of the skin from 2 cadavers using atomic absorption spectrophotometry following low-temperature ashing. Regions studied included 15 sites in Case 1 and 13 sites in Case 2. Skin layers examined were divided into upper, middle and lower epidermis and the dermis.
    2) The average content of the epidermis in various regions in Cases 1 and 2 was 179.4 and 191.6μg/g; that of the dermis was 40.4 and 35.6μg/g; the epidermis-to-dermis ratio was thus 4.5 to 1 and 6.1 to 1, respectively.
    3) The epidermal content in the scalp was significantly large, and that in palmar and plantar skin tended to be low.
    4) Stratified zinc distribution was examined in human sole skin and bovine snout skin. In both of the specimens the content was the largest in the lowar layer of the epidermis, which was, in order of concentration, followed by the middle and upper layer of the epidermis and dermis.

Anti-DNA antibodies in patient sera of various skin diseases and in normal sera, were determined by a hemagglutination test using erythrocytes labelled with both native and denatured DNA. High anti-DNA antibody titer was shown in active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and it was more elevated during the clinically acute period. The anti-DNA antibody titer of well controlled SLE was under 160 fold dilution of the sera. From the above results, it is considered the test is a useful examination to diagnose SLE and to evaluate the course of the disease.

We compared five topically applied corticosteroids of creams and ointments on DNA synthesis using rat skin. All preparations caused inhibition of DNA synthesis. The potency of inhibition was listed on the term of increasing order as follows: 0.1% hydrocortisone 17-butyrate, 0.12% betamethasone 17-valerate, 0.02% flumethasone pivarate, 0.05% clobetasol 17-propionate and 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide. Steroids in creams and ointments were in the same order. The studies indicated that topical application is a more potent inhibition than is intramuscular administration.

It is well known that bullous impetigo (impetigo) and staphylococcal toxic epidermal necrolysis (STEN) are caused only by the exfoliatin producing strain of Staphylococcus aureus. The authors have performed a comparative study on the exfoliatin producers isolated from skin lesions, nose and throat. The following significant results were obtained. Exfoliatin producing staphylococci were isolated from most patients of impetigo and STEN. However when analyzed, skin diseases other than impetigo and STEN were found to have a lower incidence of exfoliatin producing staphylococci. In conclusion, it was discovered that from the 177 strains isolated from all skin diseases, 90 (51%) were found to be exfoliatin producers.
