A simple method to mesure gravity center is reported by the use of the pressure sensitive film (Prescale). Twenty normalts were subjected to this study. Gravity center was calculated reading a pressure on the three points in the print recorded during standing. The results were compared with those by pressure sensors. We conclude this method can be clinically used as the simple method to mesure the gravity center on the foot.

Stress fractures of the metatarsal in patients with clubfoot are rare complications. In this paper, we studied roentogenographical findings of ten feet in eight cases with stress fractures of the fourth or fifth metatarsal.
Adduction deformities were found to be left in all feet and to be the most important cause of stress fractures of the metatarsal.
All of four cases with congenital clubfoot had fractures of the fourth metatarsal, while others whose clubfeet were not congenital had fractures of the fifth metatarsal. This suggsts that underlying disorders have an effect on the stress force acting on metatarsi differencly.

The medial longitudinal arch of the 331 feet of 166 infants between the ages of one year and five years were radiologically examined. They were radiographed in the standing position.
Talo-calcaneal angle and talo-1st metatarsal angle were measured in the anteroposterior projection, whereas talo-calcaneal angle, talo-1st metatarsal angle and calcaneal angle were measured in the lateral projection.
The result indicates that the medial longituinal arch of the foot rises progressively between one and five years.

Osteochondrosis of the third cuneiform bone is one of the rare disorders. A 4-year-old boy with left Perthes' disease treated by Pogo-Stick brace complained right foot pain and X-ray revealed the characteristic change of osteochondrosis of the third cuneiform bone. There have been many reports about the etiology of osteochondrosis. This case suggested a constitutional disposition as the cause of osteochondrosis.

An acid deoxyribonuclease activity was detected in synovial fluids of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA) by sensitive method using
32P-labeled
Escherichia coli DNA as substrate for enzyme assay. Nineteen patients, 20 joints with RA and 7 patients, 10 joints with OA were investigated. The enzyme activity was dected in only 3 of 9 cases with RA classified in stage I and II of Steinbrcker's stage classification. The enzyme activity was detected in 4 of 5 cases with stage III and all of 6 cases with stage IV, most cases of which showed high enzyme activity. The higher enzyme activity in synovial fluids was observed in the cases with more advanced X-ray stage.

Fifty-seven patients with bone and joint tuberculosis were seen at the Hiroshima City Hospital between 1969 to 1983. The incidence of bone and joint tuberculosis is declining and the average age of patients is higher recently.
Mainly, we discussed about the treatment and results of thirty-five cases of spinal tuberculosis. The radical operation gave similar results in the long term so far as preservation of health to the conservative treatment, but the radical operation produced certainly distinct advantages. First, bony fusion occurred much earlier.
Second, kiphosis did not increase.

There has been a dramatic decrease in the incidence of the bone and joint tuberculosis during the past forty years in Japan like that of the pulmonary tuberculosis. Good results from chemotherapy alone are possible, even in cases of abvanced joint and bone tuberculosis. In this paper, two cases with two skeletal lesions were presented and discussed.
Case I was a 58 years old woman complained of pubic and right knee joint pain.
Case 2 was a 50 years old woman who had a fistule of right foot and swelling of right index metacarpal bone.

75-year-old male suffered from femoral neck fracture. We operated on the patient by Ender pin fixation. The condition of the patient was good for nine days after operation, so we stopped giving the antibiotics to him. On the following day, he complained of pain in both elbos and high fever. The elbows had swelling local heat and fluctuation. He could not move his both elbows. We proved Staphylococcus epidermidis by culture of becterium. The symptom of the elbow disappeared after giving CTX, and he recovered from septic arthritis without disorder of the joint.

A case of primary subacute pyogenic osteomyelitis, twenty-five years old female, was reported with our some discussions. While she have been treated with hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto disease, arthritis of the left knee was aggravated rapidly with general acute clinical reactions. Joint effusion was detected but was not pyogenic. Plain roentgenograms and tomograms showed a cystic lesion in the medial femoral condyl.
99mTcMDP uptake was increased at the bilateral condyles of the femur and contiguous bone activity was so intensive. Biopsy was performed and the lesion turned out to becaused by subacute osteomyelitis. Antibiotics was given intravenously. Then the lesion was curetted and continuous irrigation to the lesion was carried out.
Now arthritis of the left knee has disappeared and postopervtive roentgenograms of the femoral condyle have shown no evidence of recurrence.

Over a nine-year period, 8 cases of sternal osteomyelitis complicating median sternotomy were seen in the Orthopaedic Department of Kokura Memorial Hospital. Seven cases were preceded by aortocoronary bypass operation and one by valve replacement. Four cases were diabetic. Three cases had a wider involvement of combined sternal osteomyelitis and costochondritis. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the most frequent organism isolated and antibiotic-resistant staph. aureus was cultured in one case. Several problems about the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of this disease are discussed.
