The author has attempted to carry out Sawada's urin reaction in patients of pulmonary tuberculosis. The rusults were following: 1) This reaction was negative in 44.1% of 34 examinedcases, and positive in 55.9%. Of the 55.9% 11.8% and 5.9% became negative by giving them VB1, and Ext. scopoliae respectively. 2) This reaction had no relation to the presence of cavities, to the blood sedimentation rate and to the administration of I.N.A.H. But thenumber of positive cases was longer in cases with positive bacilli in sputa than those withnegative bacilli. 3) This reaction became positive when the passage of the “front” took place, and the positive reaction could not be prevented by VB1, or Ext. scopoliaewhen the front has passed, though it could be prevented before the passage of the front. 4) This reactionbecame positive when some patients, whose sputa contained usually no tubercule bacilli expectorated explosively sputa containing eventually many tubercle bacilli.
