    Influences of different combinations of dietary fats and carbohydrates on liver lipids and lipid metabolism in growing rats were investigated using 5 PC% (protein calories percent) diets which contained purified whole egg protein. When corn starch was used as the sole carbohydrate source in 5 PC% diets, the liver lipid content of rats fed a diet containing 10% (w/w) of soybean oil (SBO) tended to be higher than that of rats fed a diet containing 10% of lard and was significantly higher than that of rats fed a diet containing 5% of SBO. When 10% of SBO was used as a fat source in 5 PC% diets, the liver protein content of rats fed a diet containing sucrose tended to be lower and the body weight gain was significantly lower than those of rats fed a diet containing corn starch, whereas the content of liver total lipids and triglycerides was higher but with little significance. The liver lipid content for 5 PC% diet containing sucrose increased significantly with an increase of dietary SBO levels from 10 to 20%. When sucrose and 10% SBO were used, the incorporation of acetate-2-14C into liver total lipids and triglycerides for 5 PC% diet was significantly higher, and the concentration of triglycerides and apoprotein in serum very low density lipoprotein for 5 PC% diet was significantly lower than those for 20 PC% diet used as control.

    In the earlier stage of experiments it was found out that Blepharisma japonicum Suzuki were transformed to spheroidal cell when ammonia was added to culture medium (Here, spheroidal cell formed from blepharisma by ammonia being designated as spherocell). As a method of studying mechanism of formation of spherocell from blepharisma, many nitrogen compounds were tested to see whether they have activity, like ammonia, to form spherocelL.
    The result was that no specific structure of nitrogen compounds was required for having activity to make spherocells for many nitrogen compounds had activity of spherocell formation.
    Nitrogen compounds with higher pKa values showed stronger activity, and compounds with lower pKa values showed no activity, for the formation of spherocells.
    It was deduced, from the forgoing experiments, that only lone pair electrons on nitrogen compounds took part in the formation of spherocells.

    Regulative action of nucleic acid components on the oxidation of aromatic reductones such as adrenaline, noradrenaline, dopamine, dopa and pyrocatechol in the presence of Cu2+ ion was investigated and the following results were obtained.
    1. On the oxidation of noradrenaline in the presence of Cu2+ ion, adenine and guanine showed the most remarkable stimulative effect among the nucleic acid components examined, followed by cytosine, guanosine, cytidine, CMP and cyclic AMP. The promoting activity of thymine, adenosine, thymidine, GMP and AMP were relatively weak.
    2. Among the bases tested, adenine greatly accelerated the oxidation of every aromatic reductones. Cytosine was effective on adrenaline and noradrenaline. Thymine showed a weak effect on noradrenaline but no effect on the other reductones.
    3. It is now shown that cyclic AMP accelerated the oxidation of adrenaline, noradrenaline and dopamine with Cu2+ ion, and ATP supressed the oxidation of these aromatic reductones with Cu2+ ion. From the reverse properties of both nucleotides on the oxidation of reductones, it can possibly be suggested that in the formation of cyclic AMP from ATP by adenyl cyclase activated with the stimulation of catecholamine, cyclic AMP may be produced under the negative feed back in the presence of Cu2+ ion.

    One of amino acid pesticides, N-lauroyl-L-valine was developed for plant diseases. Absorption, translocation and metabolism in rice plant and cucumber plant were investigated using N-lauroyl-L-valine-14C. N-lauroyl-L-valine-14C solution was applied on the healthy leaf of rice plant or cucumber plant, no radioactivity was found around the deposit site. But the activity was found on the injured rice plant and on the injured leaf or fruit of cucumber. Production of 14CO2 from the experiment incubating N-lauroyl-L-valine-14C with cell preparation of rice plant or a fruit of cucumber was detected slightly. From these results, attitude of N-lauroyl-L-valine applied in nature were reasoned.

    The relation between the particle size and the constituents of casein micelle by addition of calcium complexing agents (citrate, oxalate) was investigated by means of differential centrifugation method and electron microscope. Some of casein micelles changed to smaller and unspherical particles by addition of complexing agents. In both cases of addition and no addition of complexing agents to skimmilk, calcium content was higher in large size micelles than in small micelles, and reached to constant value of 20_??_23mg/g casein below 60 mμ in particle size. In both cases, inorganic phosphorus content was slightly decreased with decreasing particle size and organic phosphorus was constant through all particle sizes. κ-Casein content was increased with decreasing micelle size in skimmilk. By addition of complexing agents, however, κ-casein content became to constant through all particle sizes and the release of β-casein was caused. Thus, the particle size of casein micelles was considered to be dependent on inorganic constituents in casein micelles rather than on casein constituents.

    In vitro-digestion tests of rice protein bodies (RPB) by successive incubation of pepsin, trypsin and steapsin, indicated that most of RPB were easily digested, but 30% of RPB in number, or 16_??_18% in amount were indigestible, and remained as particles smaller (1.0_??_3.5 μ) in diameter than RPB (1.5_??_4.0 μ). These data coincided with the result of in vivo-digestion test, that the numbers of excreted feces protein particles (FPP) corresponded to 28% of RPB in diets, and also with some reports showing 84% as the in vivo-digestion rates of rice protein. The indigestible part of rice protein was concluded to be excreted as FPP, the amount of which was equivalent 16% of the RPB supplied with the daily intake of rice.

    On determinating whether the protein undergoes random manner turnover or chronological degradation, it is discussed by the mathematical models of the two compartmental systems that the excretion patterns of the radioactivity of the specific substances derived exclusively from the specific proteins, if which is available, is helpful to exclude the possible hazard of misinterpretation.
    Potential usefulness of the excretion pattern of radioactivity of 3-methylhistidine in urine after the administration of 14CH3-methionine on determinating the type of turnover of myosin and actin in skeletal muscle is proposed.

    The effect of lipid oxidation on the nutritive value_??_ proteins was investigated using a model system _??_mposed of protein-ethyl linoleate-sugar. The mix_??_re was kept at 50°C, RH 80.4% for 1_??_2 weeks _??_der fluorescent light. Available lysine and di_??_estibility in vitro by pepsin and trypsin were_??_ easured with defatted proteins.
    1. The effect of sugars on casein: The decreases _??_the quantity of available lysine and the digesti_??_lity by trypsin were remarkable with glucose or _??_alactose in comparison with sucrose, lactose, cellu_??_se or corn starch. No differences were observed on _??_e digestibility by pepsin though it was decreased.
    2. The effect of the amounts of lipid on casein: he extents of the decreases in the three paraeters measured were remarkable with the increasg amounts of lipid. Even without lipid but glu_??_se was presented, there was a considerable _??_terioration of casein.
    3. The effect on different proteins: The extent deterioration of casein was remarkable in com_??_rison with that of gluten or soy-bean protein.
