Salt-stress specificc genes in
Zygosaccharomyces rouxii detected by a differential display method were analyzed. Total RNAs were extracted from
Z. rouxii cells cultured in YM broth containing 0% or 20% NaCl. cDNAs synthesized from total RNAs were amplified by PCR, and the PCR products were separated by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Twenty-five genes specifically expressed in
Z. rouxii cells cultured in the absence or presence of 20% NaCl were finally cloned into a TA vector and sequenced. Analysis of these genes revealed that 13 genes had no sequence similarity and 12 genes had similarity to yeast genes present in the current GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ/PDB database searched with the BLAST program. Saccharomyces cerevisiae genes, one gene to a
Candida albicans gene, and one gene was the
Z. rouxii plasma membrane H
