    Gross anatomical inspectio n of both feet of 50 cadavers of Macacus cyclopsis was done with regard to the distribution and course of the arteries. I. Arteries of the Dorsum of the Foot 1) The dorsum of the foot is supplied by the Aa. dorsales pedis superficialis and profundus which originate from the A. saphena. The A. dorsalis pedis profundus is always the larger of the two. 2) The A. dorsalis pedis superficialis supplies the tibial side of the dorsum of the foot and then runs to the plantar side. Af ter giving off the R. perforans proximalis, it becomes the A. metatar sea dorsalis I which runs to the first toe. There are som e cases in which this artery is very small or absent. 3) The A. dorsalis pedis profund u s is the major artery of the dorsum of the foot. In addition to giving off the R. perforan s proximalis to the sole of the foot, it forms the Aa. me tatarseae dorsales II-IV. The R. perforans proximalis forms on the sole of the foot the Arcus plantaris profundus. The Rr. perforans distalis lateralis from each A. metatarsea dorsalis form the Aa. di gitales plantares communes on the sole of the foot. Usually, both the Aa. metatarseae dorsales III and IV separate from the A. tarsea lateralis, but other additional patterns of origin may be seen. In some cases, they may arise from the plantar artery. The A. dorsalis superficialis accesoria (Nishi) which runs to the lateral edge of the fifth toe was noted in approximately half of the cases.

    Histochemical investigation on the apocrine sweat gland in the circumanal region of the cattle was carried out employing allochrome staining, pyronine-methylgreen staining, toluidin blue staining at pH 2.5.4.0 and 5.6, and toluidin blue staining after the preliminary treatment with 1N hydrochloric acid and 1% periodic acid respectively. Stainabilities of both glandular cells and luminal contents were observed. 1) By mea n s of the above mentioned staining, any coarse granules that correspond to the so-called secretory granules were not recognized. 2) The luminal contents were PAS positive and they showed, metachromasia with toluidin blue staining and besides, this metachromasia was not diminished even by the preliminary treatment with iN hydrochloric acid. Accordingly, the luminal contents might be considered to contain mucopolysaccharide but no glycogen. Ribonucleic acid and hyaluronic acid were not demonstrated. 3) The cytoplasm of the glandular c e lls was pyroninophilic and it possibly contained RNA. Moreover, the apical cytoplasm showed a PAS positive reaction, and probably contained similar mucopolysaccharide to that in the luminal contents. However, clearly distinct metachromasia, as seen in the luminal contents, was not recognized in the apical cytoplasm with toluidin blue staining. 4) With toluidin blue staining followed by the preliminary treatment with 1% periodic acid, the stainability of the glandular cells intensified, and the apex of the secretory process showed purple red metachromasia, and this coloration was similar to that in the luminal contents.5) A few g l andular cells that were possibly provided with a good deal of mucopolysaccharide throughout the cytoplasm was encountered.

    In order to clarify the an a tomical details of the cell-rich zone which is usually observed around the upper surface of the human adult tooth-pulp, the present authors tried to analyse this subject from the theoretical and developmental view points, and some anatomical features as follows have been revealed. The cell-rich zone, which lies on the upper surface of the crown pulp of the human adult tooth, is not only constituted with the pulpal connective tissue cells such as the pulp cells, amoeboid wandering cells, histiocytes, undifferentiated mesenchyme cells and the cells of blood vessels, but it is at the same time founded upon the accumulation of the nervous tissue elements such as the Schwann cells and the endo- and perineural connective tissue cells. The latter have been discarded in the subodontoblastic layer during the course of the plexus formation, which was accompanied by the continuous dissociation and demyelination of nerve fibres. So it may be concluded that the morphogenesis o f the cell-rich zone is closely related to the formation of the subodontoblastic nerve plexus, the defasciculation and the demyelination of nerve bundles taking place on the upper surface of the pulp in the course of odontogenesis. For the final solution of the problem, however, further studies such as comparative-anatomical, experimental as well as electron microscopic investigations will be needed.

    Anatomical works on arterial bra n ches distributed to the palate, hitherto, have made a poor show for all a good many anthropological researches on the osseous palate, and besides, some descriptions are seemed to be incorrect. Still more, of the comparative observation, they give none. Needless to say that such defect must be filled. The present author has deeply felt it his duty to set the matte r right, on the origin of the arteries, appearing points of them to the palate, their directions, features of ramification, and supplying territories, etc., and also to supplement insufficiency about the comparative anatomy of the whole aspect of the palate itself including its bone. (Of the item, it will be separately studied, henceforth). Especially upon the nomenclature, it has brought some -perplexity, as explained later, respectively.
