The Secret of Kells(Brendan to Kells no himitsu), set in medieval Irish monastery of Kells, was released in all parts of Japan in 2017. The Book of Kells is relatively famous and popular among Japanese people who are interested in Irish culture, Irish literature and Irish history. Most of them recognize this illuminated manuscript as a masterpiece of Celtic arts. I doubt the reliability of the concept of Celts or Celtic in pre-modern Irish history. I do not consider that it is suitable to use the term Celts or Celtic in medieval Irish history and culture. This paper introduces recent studies of the Iron Age British archaeology, DNA researches of British people and the Book of Kells and prompts to reconsider about Celts.

    A growing interest and increase in the use of e-learning technologies have become an interesting field in the past decade. In Japan as well, the MEXT has been encouraging various ICT implementations for education and is supporting trials though research grants. However, at National Institutes of Technology, there is not one complete system of rationales for its use, and seems that each college and subject or faculty is left to figure things out themselves. This study analyzes existing e-learning efforts for engineering and English language subjects. It is seen that true to their nature of being institutes of technology, engineering subjects are superior with more thought and purpose put into their efforts.

    チタンは人体に無害で耐食性に優れ，近年では生体材料として用いることを目的とした多孔質チタンの研究が行われている．チタンおよび多孔質チタンが広く普及するためには動物実験が不可欠であるが，そのための基礎実験が重要とされる．多孔質チタンは気孔に骨が侵入して材料と強固に結合することが期待できる．さらに，チタンの生物学的適性に寄与する表面積が大きくなり，理論的にアパタイトの量が増大する．すなわち，気孔に侵入する体液の量とアパタイトの析出量との間に関連性があると考えられる．本研究では，遠心分離機を用いて多孔質チタンに浸透する水分率を測定し，気孔内に浸透する水分量を比較した．また，擬似体液(SBF)による浸漬を行い，アパタイトの析出量との関連性を調べた．その結果，遠心機による浸漬で水分率の増加が確認でき，アルカリ・加熱処理の過程における，水酸化ナトリウムの浸漬に応用でき，アパタイト析出がより促進されることが分かった．

    本校の進める農学の素養を持った技術者を育てるアグリエンジニアリング教育の展開経過を報告する． 特に，座学講義の根幹となる農学概論について，本年度より一関高専および都城高専とともに協働ＴＶ 講義をはじめることとなった．また，この講義に用いるテキストの開発も行われた．これらについて報 告する．

    平成23年および平成29年に行われた第2グラウンド防球ネット敷設工事によって，大分高専サッカー部が利用している第2グラウンドの外に対する防球問題が著しく改善された．地域住民の安全性に関わる一番の懸案事項は解消したものの，グラウンド内の防球問題が次なる課題として顕在化したため，さらなる対策の必要性を示唆した．大分高専は冷水機を新たに設置する措置をとり，文部科学省による「熱中症事故の防止について」という通達に応えている．しかしながら，全部活中で最も部員数が多いサッカー部員が活動している第2グラウンドから，4車線の道路を挟んだ箇所に冷水機や製氷機が設置されておりアクセスが悪く，それらの利用は困難であることを指摘する．学生の安全性を考えた上でこれを解消するためには，サッカー部の部室横に冷水機を新たに設置する，もしくは既に設置されている学生寮内の冷水機や製氷機の運用規則を変更するなどの対策が早急に望まれる．

    Diversity of vocabulary is high in the agricultural domain by the people different in a background such as farmer, distribution processor, researcher, and so forth. The diversity is a hurdle to share and exchange agricultural information. In order to lower this hurdle in Thailand, we considered to create the common agricultural vocabulary (CAVOC) in Thai. To realize this, we created the CAVOC translator. It is a mechanism to translate based on CAVOC in English and Japanese defined by Japanese research group. As a result, we confirmed that our system can easily create CAVOC in Thai, and eliminate obvious mistakes.
