Dose rates of environmental radiation (r ray) were determined at hot spring areas in Sanin district, using a NaI (Tl) scintillation survey meter. Dose rates of radiation in the air of outdoors were higher at spa areas of Misasa, Sekigane and Ikeda which are known as radioactive springs than at non-spa area of Kurayoshi city.
A positive correlation between dose rates of radiation and Rn contents was shown in outdoor air at Misasa spa area.
Dose rates of radiation in outdoor air at Misasa and Sekigane tended to increase near the spring sources.
Dose rates of radiation in the air of the bathrooms were 30.1±9.0μR/h at Gunzehotel and 22.3±3.0μR/h at Ohashi-hotel-Gankutsunoyu at Misasa. They were very high, compared to those in the air outside the bathroom (11.8±2.3μR/h).
Dose rates of radiation in the spring water tended to higher in the brim of a bathtub. A few sinter deposits which contained radioactive elements were observed on the inside wall of a bathtub.
Count rates of radiation (cpm, α ray and β ray) on skin surface were determined after bathing in radioactive spring water of Misasa, using a ZnS (Ag) scintillation survey meter (α ray) and GM tube survey meter (β ray).
There were a good correlation between count rates of radiation (α ray and β ray) on skin surface and Rn contents in spring water.

Subcutaneous and muscular (cranial tibial) tissue PO2 and PCO2 in CO2 vapour bath were measured on rabbit by means of Medical Mass Spectrometry, MEDSPECT II, Chemetron, U. S. A.
Subcutaneous PO2 increased by 30% during CO2 vapour bath of 5L/min at 37°C and muscular PO2 increased by 50% after CO2 vapour bath, keeping the level at least for 2 hours.
Ideal elevation of PO2 level was observed in vapour bath of 1L/min at 37°C for 30min.
A number of factors causing an elevation of PO2 in tissue by topically applied CO2 are to be thought, such as a vasodilating effect, pH-lowering, shift to right of oxygen dissociation curve and so on.
It is assumed that the PO2 elevation together with an improved tissue perfusion could ameliorate complains of patients suffering from degenerative pathology and peripheral arterial insufficiency by stimulating patients' own potential curability.

The effect of the granules composed of Natril siccatus and herbal extracts in hydrotherapy was studied by recording skin surface temperature, deep body temperature from the intact skin, pletysmography, impedance pletysmography, blood pressure and subjective evaluation. These were measured before taking the testee into the Hubbart tank containing 0.0085% of herb granules at 40°C for 10 minutes, soon after taking a bath and at proper period until 2 hours.
The control study was done in simple water-bath in the same method. 30 testee were used for the test.
    Results were as follows:
    1. Skin surface temperature of H. G. group showed significant higher at the distal area of the extremities compaired with the control group.
    2. Deep body temperature of H. G. group showed significant higher at right heel (10mm depth from the skin), palm (5mm) and calf (30mm) against the control.
    3. The wave height of pletysmography of the index and the first toe of H. G. group was higher than the control at 100 minutes later.
    4. IPG of H. G. group showed significant difference in upper and lower extremities against the control.
    5. The change of the blood pressure showed no difference between two groups.
    6. The subjective evaluation was scored and the t-test showed significant difference against the control, especially the difference was the most marked in utility feeling, and the effect of keeping warmth was in significant difference.
We may conclude that the H. G. in hydrotherapy has a sweet smell, make fell at home, keep warmth and play a role to promote blood circulation.

It is an artificial balneal system for use of balneotherapy to take an alternate bathing in acid and alkaline solution artificially made by electrolysis of plants soaked in water.
This system was applied to balneotherapy of patients with vibration disease.
Twelve patients including 10 males and 2 females from aged 47 to 70, which visited Yoshida Clinic in Hikami of Hyogo between June, 1978 and April, 1982, received this balneotherapy together with therapeutical agents.
After treatment during 1 year to 2.5 years approximately, the following results were obtained.
    1) Significant improvement in subjective symptoms including Raynaud's phenomenon, numb, pain, trouble in hearing etc. was observed in 4 patients. Three patients remain only subjective symptoms as geriatrics. Other 5 patients, which include 2 patients with treatment only for 2 months, also have remission.
    2) From the results of cold exposure test for peripheral neurocirculatory and kinetic function, skin surface temperature of 12 patients group after treatment showed statistically significant higher level than that before treatment, even before and after cold exposure. Significant improvement in compression test for nail, tapping test, pallesthetic test and algesimetry was also observed in these patients after treatment.
    3) There were no definite changes in blood pressure except 2 cases with hypertension, who showed normal blood pressure levels essentially after treatment.
The wave height of finger tip pletysmography of these patients group was higher in significant difference after treatment, even before and after cold exposure.
    4) Regarding blood chemical examinations, five cases were CRP test positive, but three of them were negative after treatment. There was one case of RA test positive, but no change was observed after treatment.
Noradrenaline levels in blood from these patients group increased after a bathing of this balneal system. Its levels decreased after a bathing, whereas after treatments of repeated bathing.
From these results, it was evident that this artificial balneal system for use of balneotherapy was much effective on treatment of patients with vibration disease.
Its conveniency to use and a point of similarity with natural balneotherapy was discussed.
