This paper starts with the premise that successful Business Intelligence (BI) brings about changes
in business activities. In accordance with the level of the changes it drives, we propose to classify BI into four
types: "Cross-tabulation BI", "Discovery BI", "What-if BI", and "Proactive BI" in the ascending order of the
level of change. To achieve higher level of change, it is necessary to improve the BI maturity level, namely the
organizational capability of BI. The BI maturity model defined in this paper divides such capability level into
five stages, and the keys to attain the targeted stage are described in terms of business process, information system,
and human resources and organization.
