LINAC can generate electron beam with short pulse length and/or small emittance. Long pulsed superconducting LINAC (SCL) can generate multi-bunch beams at a high beam current of about 0.1 mA with minimum extra construction cost from ordinary normal conducting LINAC. The capacity of the required cryosystem for pulsed operation is relatively small and the operation cost is almost comparable with present injector LINAC. Using storage ring as a beam transport, users can directly use the single pass (SP) beam from SCL in addition to conventional storage (SR) beam. The operation of the Hybrid Ring has three modes: only SR beam operation, only SP beam operation and simultaneous two beams operation. With two beams operation, SP beam is injected at off-axis orbit with the presence of SR beam. There are still many subjects to be solved, but with the Hybrid Ring, many users can simultaneously use SP and SR beam at the same time. The detailed design is recently started and not finished yet. In this paper we show the idea and concept of the Hybrid Ring.
Hiroshima Synchrotron Radiation Center (HiSOR) has been promoting research on materials science centered on solid-state-physics, using a compact synchrotron light source. The facility has powerful functions to determine quantum states of quasiparticles (energy, momentum and spin) in materials with sufficient accuracy, using high-resolution-ARPES and spin-ARPES. This article reports on situations of steps from the formulation of the HiSOR plan to creation of the research facility with outstanding feature.
The fourth International School on Beam Dynamics and Accelerator Technology (ISBA21) was held for seven days from February 21 to February 27, 2022. In addition to the regular lectures, student self introductions, a virtual accelerator tour and a virtual excursion were conducted as unique event at the online school. This was the fourth ISBA, and it was a milestone for the parent program, IINAS, which has just terminated. In addition, we would like also to discuss the future of the International Accelerator School.
Using the overseas dispatch program of the National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology, I stayed at the Center for Free Electron Laser Science, DESY in Hamburg. This article provides details about life in Hamburg including COVID-19 situation at that time.
