【Purpose】The purpose of this study was to evaluate an intervention with Psycho-Analytic Systems Theory based Self-Care Therapy（PAS- SCT）in patients who have physical illness associated with depressive symptoms and acting- out behaviors and to identify the algorithm that achieved success.
【Methods】In a hospital, after this study was approved by its research ethics committee, an intervention with PAS-SCT was implemented in ten patients who had physical illness associated with moderate depressive symptoms and acting-out behaviors. The severity of depressive symptoms and acting-out behaviors as well as self-care ability were compared between before and after the intervention.
【Results】By the intervention, the severity of depressive symptoms of the patients improved from moderate to mild. The acting-out behaviors and disease self-care ability also improved with the patients' anxiety being acknowledged before acting-out.
【Discussion】After PAS-SCT invention, the patients came to recognize their anxiety and ask for help, indicating an improvement of self-care ability.
【Conclusion】This study demonstrated the significant effect of the intervention with PAS-SCT as a nursing care method for difficult patients who have physical illness associated with depressive symptoms and acting-out behaviors but without medical history of psychiatric disorders and identified the algorithm.
