Though the organic materials such as 'Nafion' are well known as a solid electrolyte for PEFC, our purpose is to perpetrate inorganic fast protonic conductor because of its advantages such as thermal and chemical stabilities etc. We have tried to perpetrate inorganic solid electrolytes at relatively low temperature. At room temperature, the conductivity of the aluminum lanthanum phosphate glass was showed more than 10

Although CeO2-based ceramics is useful as oxide ion conductor, CeO2 is easily reduced under reduction atmosphere so that some design for components is required. One of this resolution is the formation of composites between ZrO2. In this system, the decreasing conductivity of oxide ions is observed by mixing ZrO2 and CeO2. In present research, the hopping behavior of oxygen between neighboring sites in crystal structures is examined by using the anelastic measurement of Y2O3doped CeO2-ZrO2 solid solution.

The conductivity of yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) exhibits a maximum at a Y2O3 concentration of approximately 8 mol% and subsequently decreases with increasing Y2O3 concentration. The decrease in the conductivity may be attributed to the association or ordering of oxygen vacancies. In this study, high-density of dislocations were introduced in YSZ to enhance the ionic conductivity.

La0.90Sr0.10Ga0.80Mg0.20O3(LSGM) has an excellent character for highimic conductivity of oxygen ions at relatively low temperature. However, sinterability of LSGM is low. In order to apply this material to solid electrolyte for fuel cell, densification is essential, because fuel gas permeates through the open pores of low density LSGM. Generally, the density higher than ca. 96% is required to obtain a pore free material. In the present study, LSGM has been sintered by hot isostatic press (HIP) to obtain a pore free LSGM.

Alumina was joined via In/Ag-based alloy/In interlayers at 973 and 1073 K for 5.4 to 86.4 ks at 5 MPa by hot pressing. The specimen that joined at 973 K for 86.4 ks has high 4-point bending strength comparable to that of non-bonded alumina and that of brazed alumina by Ag-based alloy. Six test beams out of 14 were broken at alumina, indicating strong bond. Optical microscopy of the fracture surface indicates that good contact between alloy and alumina was obtained during joining process.

intra-type structure composites showed high fracture strength and fracture toughness. to fabricate intra-type structure, we usedgamma-alumina with nano pores as matrix, and silicon carbide asdispersed particles. and we added alpha-alumina as a seedin order to increase sinterability of gamma-alumina.the sintered specimens measured physical and mechanical properties, such as bulk density, Vickers hardness, and fracture strenth.fracture surface was observed by SEM.

Aluminum nitride powders coated with nano-sized boron nitride precursor were prepared by a chemical route. The powders were reduced in hydrgen and pressureless sintered to fabricate AlN/BN composites. As expected from the rule of composites, Young's modulus decreased with increasing BN content, the strength of the nanocomposites was significantly improved, compared with the conventional AlN/BN composites. Furthermore, the nanocomposites exhibited the excellent machinability and high thermal conductivity.

As the silicon nitrides with Lutetia additive can show superior high temperature strength as well as creep resistance, they are intended to apply as structures components for high temperature use. Recently, the authors revealed that mechanical properties of the silicon nitrides, such as strength, fracture toughness, etc., are strongly affected by the lutetia/silica sintering additive ratio, powder bed, sintering temperature, etc. In this report, various factors that affect the mechanical properties are reported.

Eu

6 (CMS), one of the efficient blue phosphors for plasma display panels was prepared by a newly developed wet-chemical process. Spherical SiO
2 particles modified with polyethylenimine were coated with hydroxide particles of Ca, Mg, and Eu by means of electrostatic deposition to prepare core-shell structured particles, which were then calcined to produce CMS phosphors. The prepared phosphors showed good deep blue emission centered at 450 nm when excited at 359 nm. The emission intensity was two times that of the CMS prepared by a conventional solid-state process.
