    A review of theoretical and experimental articles on the process of formation of latent electrostatic image in electrofax papers is presented.
    First, concerning the charging process, Amick's “Volume Charge Capacitor Model” is explained, which, after the author's experiment on the rise characteristics of surface potential for the pre-exposed samples, is modified in such a way that negative O2- ions invade into the electrofax layer and migrate along the ZnO microcrystal surface toward the base, taking into account the real nature of the porous layer.
    Next, light absorption property is illustrated after the author's work on the reflectance measurements for the various layer thickness samples of same composition, deriving theoretical expressions describing light intensity distribution and absorption in the electrofax layer using Kubelka's equation.
    And next, analytical considerations are done on the photo-induced discharge process, where mean traverse length of photoelectrons w is directly related to the decrement of surface potential, and given thoretical expressions with mean range w and several optical parameters, and charge density distribution is also shown.
    Furthermore, several data including w obtained by the quantum yield measurments for the discharging process are shown with some analytical procedures.
    Finaly, concerning the interpretation for the shape of photo-decay curve which is specific for electrofax papers, Levinson's model is presented, followed by author's another explanation based on varying w, which necessitates a mechanism of increasing of photoelectron life τ throughout the process, and an experimental result supporting author's view is shown.

    Poly [1, 5-dipheny1-3-(p-vinylphenyl)-pyrazoline], a photoconductive polymer, was prepared from polystyrene via polyvinylacetophenone and polyvinylbenzalacetophenone. Especially, the relation between the preparation conditions in the last step and the content of unreacted vinylbenzalacetophenone units was investigated in detail.
    Quantitative analyses by IR spectra showed that the photoconductive polymer contained the unreacted units at least about ten weight percent even when prepared at the optimum condition.
    Application of the photoconductive polymer to electrophotography was studied by coating it with or without spectral sensitizers on aluminum foil, measuring the sensitivity to incandescent light and copying images.
    Electrophotographic layers having comparable sensitivity with ones consisting of binder resin (polyolefine) and 1, 3, 5-triphenyl-pylazoline, a low molecular weight model substance, were obtainable.

    Diluted emulsion was highly centrif uged to give a clean supernatant gelatin solution free from silver halide grains. The gelatin solution separated from emulsions was compared with a control gelatin solution in the ultraviolet absorption spectra.
    Thus the adsorption behavior of nucleic acid in gelatin against silver halide grains was investigated on acid, neutral and ammoniacal emulsions.
    Nucleic acid was, best, in an acid emulsion and slightly in an ammoniacal emulsion, adsorpted by silver halide grains, while in a neutral emulsion it was adsorpted little. The dependence of the nucleic acid adsorption to silver halide grains upon emulsion type was explained principally owing to pH dependence.

    Authors studied to investigate whether it was possible or not, to extend the spectral sensitivity to the visible region keeping the high sensitivity.
    From the result of the calculation of π-electronic state on benzene diazonium cations substituted by the different substituents by Hückel theory, a certain relationship between the charge density of the diazo group in the excited state and the quantum yield was found.
    According to this relationship, authors synthesized some diazonium salts having the higher sensitivity than that of the conventional one.

    Zinc oxide-thin-layer chromatography has been applied to the comparison of adsorptiveforce of aseries of merocyanine dyes to zinc oxide fine crystals.
    The merocyanine dyes are 3-substituted 5-[(1-ethy1-4-(1H)-quinolylidene)-ethylidene]-rhodanine derivatives, substituents being hydrogen, ethyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, carboxymethyl, 2-sodium sulfoethyl, 2-diethylaminoethyl, phenyl and 4-hydroxyphenyl.
    It may be considered that the smaller the Rf value is, the stronger the adsorptive force is, hence inverse order of Rf values shows the order of adsorptive force of the dye molecules.
    The order of the spectral sensitization efficiency of the merocyanine dyes in zinc oxyde-resin electrophotpgraphic layer was found to agree with the inverse order of Rf values of them.
    The dependency of the sensitization efficiency of merocyanine dyes upon the adsorptive force was ascertained by this technique.
    Details of the zinc oxyde-thin-layer chromatography technique are described.
