    A review on the progress of photography in foreign countries in the year of 1966.     Adenine or nucleic acid were added to an inert gelatine or a copolymer of acrylamide, 1-vinyl-2-methyl-imidazole and acrylic acid (mol. ratio, 85: 5: 10, respectively) and their physical restraining powers for the growth of silver chloride crystals were investigated by turbidity measurements at various pH value.
    It was observed that adenine shows strong restraining power in neutral media (pH≅6), but the restraining action disappears completely in acidic media (pH≅2) or by the treatment with ion exchange resins (Amberlite IR-120B and IRA-400) in neutral media. This phenomena was observed similarly with other polymers.
    On the other hand, the physical retarding action of nucleic acid, as well as restraining gelatine, were observed even in acidic media, and were not affected by pH of media or by the treatment with ion exchange resins.

    The mechanism of the fog inhibiting action of organic antifoggants in development process is discussed by considering the probability of their adsorption on fog or latent image centers.
    The probability that every fog center on a grain is covered by antifoggant molecules, and therefore the grain becomes undevelopable, is larger than that every latent image center on a grain is covered by them, because the number of fog centers on a grain is less than that of latent image centers on a grain.

    A method for the determination of lead and thallium in photographic films, silver bromide crystals and silver metals by atomic absorption spectrochemical analysis has been established. The dithizone-MIBK extraction was applied to the analysis for micro amount lead and thallium, the sensitivity of the method was five-fold multiplied, and the 0.0002% lead in silver metals or a few micrograms of lead and thallium in 100 cm2 photographic films could be determined. A series of analytical data for standard samples containing 5-50 μg of lead and thallium per 100 cm2 indicate within 4% error. The condition recommended were: wavelength 2833 A (Pb), 3776 A (T1); source 14 mA hollow cathode (Pb), 500 mA discharge (T1); slitwidth 1.0 mm ; acetylene flow 2.0 l/min; air flow 11.0 l/min for aqueous solution and 16.0 l/min for MIBK solution.

    The property of the light-developable printing-out emulsion co-precipitated with metallic ion is described. The tested metallic ions are classified into four types, according to the effect on the printingout characteristics; the accelerating type which relatively increases the image density Da more than the background density Db, the reversal type which increases more Db than Da, the parallel type which increases or decreases simultaneously both Da and Db, and the last the ineffective type.
    Those of the accelerating type are useful as “ visibilizer ” for the latent image of the lightdevelopable printing-out emulsion.
    The metallic ions belonging to the accelerating and reversal type have specific effects on printing-out and developing-out characteristics of AgX emulsion. The behaviours of Pb2+, Au3+ and Bi3+ representing of them have been observed.
