    Owing to the recent remarkable rise of the price of metalic silver and prevalent use of an automatic rapid developing processor, it has become much demanded to realize thin layer of photographic silver halide emulsions.
    They do very active research on improving the covering power of developed silver image, and have been publishing many patents on them. Some of those patents from 1960 to 1967 are reviewed.

    The tower was assembled by piling up many unit tanks. The raw material solutions were fed in the top of the stages, there, emulsification was performed. The emulsion was ripened during the flowing down through the stages.
    When the containig amount V of emulsion in each stge was equal one another, raw material solntions were fed simultaneously in only the 1st stage; when V was equal, silver nitrate solution was fed separately in the 1st and the 2nd stages; and when V was not equal, raw material solutions were fed in only the 1st stage.
    The equations of these three cases were derived and were proved by the experiments.
    On heating and agitation, warm air blowing method was not adequate, but propellers for agitation connected with one axis passing through all stages and electric wire heater wound around the tower were adequate.

    To clarify the adequate shape of pipe, the mixing states of emulsion in pipe were experimented about various shapes.
    They were understood to be the necessary conditions, that there were no level parts, no going down parts and no variable radiuses of curvature in the way of piping. Coil pipe was chosen, as it fulfilled these conditions.
    The mixing states of emulsion in pipe was clarified by the analysis of the mixing states of water.
    The characteristic curves of emulsion, acquired by the experiments on the mixing states of emulsion using a coil pipe, corresponded to the charaeteristics of emulsion, supposed from the analysis of the mixing states of water.

    About the flowing velocities of 306, 265, 210, 190, 164 and 125 cm/min, and about the winding gradients of 1/25, 1/15, 1/10 and 1/4, experiments were performed.
    The effects were indicated by flowing state, residence time curve and characteristic curve. On plotting the residence time curve, 10% gelatin solution could be used in place of emulsion.
    The flowing state changed between 210 and 190 cm/min. When the flowing velocity of emulsion or the pipe gradient was large, the inclinations of both residence time curve and characteristic curve were also large. As the results, the old emulsion discharged sooner, and the higher gamma of emulsion was obtained.
    The effects of velocity was larger than those of gradient, and those in the 2nd ripening pipe were larger than those in the 1st one.
    For avoiding accumulation of bubles, a larger gradient than 1/30 was necessary.

    In the previous papers, the author and others reported on the correlation of spectral sensitization by merocyanine dyes with their adsorption in zinc oxide electrophtographic layers, and concluded that the sensitization occurred only when a polar (particularly an anionic or an acidic) group was introduced into the dye structure.
    In the present paper, the adsorption state of an acid morocyanine dye having a carboxymethyl groups studied by means of infrared absorption spectroscopy.
    The application of infrared spectroscopy to the study of zinc oxide-dye system has been found possible, since zinc oxide has weak absorption in the range of 3, 000-1, 100 cm-1.
    The acid merocyanine dye has an absorption band at 1, 720 cm-1 when mixed with KBr or ZnO, but loses the band when adsorbed onto ZnO. This fact means the chemical change of the carboxylic acid group to carboxylate (zinc salt) due to the adsorption. In other words, the acid merocyanine dye is chemisorbed onto ZnO.
    Experimental results obtained in stearic acid-ZnO system support the idea.
    The fact that almost all the excellent sensitizing dyes for ZnO-electrophotography are acid ones suggest the chemical interactions between ZnO and dyes.

    In order to elucidate the mechanism of adsorption of addition agents on silver bromide grains, the measurements of streaming potential of silver bromide containing addition agents were attempted. When the streaming potential is measured, the pH and pAg of the solutions containing addition agents must be controlled. For controlling the pH or pAg of the solutions, nitric acid, sodium hydroxide, silver nitrate and potassium bromide were used. The Paper presents the effect of individual or mixed addition of these reagents into solution on streaming potential measurement of silver bromide. Results showed that the potential is positive in low pAg and low pH, while is negative in other case. The results were discussed.
