    The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between information capacity and temperature of development with regard to the higher information recording capacity of the color negative film such as Kodacolor II and the similarities which are currently used. film such as Kodacolor II and the similarities which are currently used.
    The result of the experiment shows that the temperature dependence of information capacity of the individual color layers is similar in yellow and cyan layers except magenta layer. The information capacities of the yellow and cyan layers increased as the temperature raised. Whereas in the magenta layer no temperature dependence is observed. However, the sum of the information capacities of the individual layers of the color negative film increased as the temperature of color development raised. This result is an analogous to the case of black and white negative film as the authors previously reported.

    A technique of photoacoustic spectroscopy was applied to investigations of the photochemical reaction of sensitizing dyes adsorbed on AgBr and AgCl crystals. The photoacoustic signal of 1, 1'- diethyl-2, 2'-cyanine adsorbed on the crystals decreased with exposure to an excitation light longer than 500 nm without any appreciable shift of the spectrum, which may be related to a rather drastic decomposition of the chromophores of the dye. On the other hand, the maximum of the spectrum of rhodamine B exhibited a gradual hypsochromic shif t in the course of exposure, which was considered to be due to the occurrence of an efficient N-deethylation of the dye. This technique could easily solve problems of in situ observation of a sensitizing dye adsorbed on silver halide crystals and will be applicable to the study of various photochemical reactions in the photographic materials which are very difficult to study by other techniques.

  • Sensitization with Amines

    A sensitization by amine was observed for the peel apart imaging system based on decarboxylation reaction which has been reported in a previous paper. In this system, an image was obtained by the modification of adhesive force at the flash illuminated boundary between the photo-thermal sensitive polymer layer and the plastic film owing to evolved gaseous carbon dioxide in exposed areas.
    It was found that the photographic speed was incresed by adding amine (about 1 molecular part to 4 molecular part carboxylic acid) to the photo-thermal sensitive layer. For example, the photosensitivity of an imaging sensor consisting of acetonedicarboxylic acid and 1, 3-diphenyl guanidine was 0.56 cm2/J. Whereas without amine it was 0.36 cm2/J.
    Furthermore it was observed that the decomposition temperature of the mixture of organic carboxylic acid with amine decreased with decrease in pKb of the mixed amine. Therefore amine is considered to accelerate the decarboxylation reaction in this system.

  • Relation between Optical Development Characteristics and the Molecular Structures of Color Former

    Certain free radical sensitive materials, for example leuco malachit green and carbon tetrabromide system, have been optically developed to intensify the optical density of a initial faint or latent image. This optical development is done by uniformaly irradiating the materials with red light which is absorbed by the image portions but not by the non-image area. Thus up to now, the image color has been limited to blue or green, which are capable of absorbing red light.
    It was found, however that various color image may be optically developed by use of fluorane compounds as coloring agents. This report descrives the optical development characteristics and molecular structure of various fluorane and other compounds as coloring agents (carbon tetrabromide used as an active agent), and discussed the effect of 3-and 7-amino groups of the fluorane structure and the density of protons produced during the reaction of dye formation, on the optical development speed and color, as determined by NMR measurements and experimental results with solution of coloring agents.

    Properties and chemical behaviors of cyclodextrins and crown ethers are briefly described. Photocontrols of the molecular recognition of these compounds and the utilization of the molecular recogninition for the triplet energy transfer are reviewed.
