    The evaluation of color fading of dark faded color patches (C, M or Y) prepared with color slide films was examined from the change of color difference (ΔE*) calculated from L*a*b* system. As the fading condition, the patches were kept at 70±0.5°C and 75±1.0% RH for up to 4 weeks, and their color densities (DR, DG or DB) and tristimulus values (X, Y, Z) were measured every 4 days.
    From the results obtained on the relation between the decrease of color density and the amounts of ΔE* for each patch at various fading time, there was the remarkable difference of the color fading situation between coupler-in-emulsion type and coupler-in-developer type color slide films. At the former type films, color density of yellow patch increased rapidly in initial fading time for generation of yellow stain, but the density of the patch with the latter decreased gradually according to increase the fading time. However, it was found that there was not necessarily to exist the correlation between the amounts of color difference and decrease of density.
    The ratio of the amount of three components (ΔH*, ΔC* and ΔL*) in ΔE* which have an effect on chromaticity, was also changed according to increase the fading time. It became clear that those components respect the character of fading such as the direction and amount of changed color.

    In this paper, the X-ray radiographs of the maxillary sinus in chronic sinusitis are analyzed and processed.
    The Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF), calculated from the density histogram of the image, is introduced to evaluate the tonal content of the X-ray radiographs, because when X-ray radiographs is used in the diagnosis of chronic inflammation of the maxillary sinus, the most important data is provided by the density distributions.
    The distance between the CDFs was defined as a criterion for determining the effectiveness of medical treatment. In the experimental results of twenty samples, this distance was successful for diagnosis of the stage of recovery in chronic sinusitis.

    Recently, CIE Sub-Committee SC-3.2 on “Illumination for Colour Reproduction” has been investigating an evaluation method for obtaining the index which can predict the degree of the color consistency of lamps in various fields of color reproduction. This work has been carried out as the activity of the Photographic Working Party of Japanese CIE SC-3.2, and the authors will propose here the new method for evaluating the photographic consistency of taking illuminants used in color photography. This paper is composed of the following three parts. The first part describes the derivation of the photographic consistency index “Pc”. In the second part, we show some numerical examples of Pc s by using seven fluorescent lamps as the test illuminants. In the final part, the reliability of the photographic consistency index Pc is confirmed by psychological evaluations of color pictures photographed under the test illuminants compared with those under the reference illuminant. It was found that the reliable correlation exists between Pc s and the indices obtained by psychological evaluations.

    The recent silver shock has ironically revealed the difficulty of total or even partial replacement of this material in the image recording field.
    To explore a new, ideal model for image forming system not dependent on silver, the present review first summarizes the current status of non-silver image forming systems in contrast to the classically ideal silver halide system to conduct the following conclusions.
    i) The concept of silver saving is broken down to the replacement of the unique functions fulfilled by the silver halide system, i.e., the exceptionally high photographic speed associated with a high S/N ratio, and the log E-linear imaging response.
    ii) These functions will most promisingly be replaced by physical photosensors the time-sequential signal from which is processed so as to simulate the response of the silver halide system.
    Analysis of the image formation technologies based on time-sequential signals shows that, due to the ease of signal amplification, the key technology shifts from visualization to image stabilization.
    Then, a new viewpoint of classifying image forming methods is shown on the basis of image stabilization.
    Finally, a few proposals are given as for the reduction of the number of processing steps with a stress on image stabilization.

    A heat-mode laser recording was classified to the optical disc, the laser COM and the material transfer of the dye for the lithographic printing use.
    In this review, the optical disc that would be used for mass-memory system was discussed from the recording material point of view and the discussions were concentrated on the mechanism of the heat-mode laser-recording on the evaporated tellurium film.
    The optical disc system has many advantages of a large information capacity, a low cost per bit and a rapid access time. The recording materials for the optical disc system are required to have a high recording sensitivity, a high resolution, a long stability of images, a rapid access of retrieval and a cheap bit-cost.
    The properties and the merits of the image-recording layer were discussed on the metal, the metal particles dispersed in the matrix and the dye dissolved in the polymer binder.
