Very low reflectance colorimeter which employed multi silicon photodiode of 24 elements and modified AN-40 color difference system has been developed.
This photometer can measure object color in visible wavelength from 400 nm to 700 nm.
The contents of this paper are summarized as ; consideration about noise, lineality and temperature of silicon photodiode.
Total error of output signal from photodetector is less than 0.01% theoretically comparing the measured results by ordinal colorimeter and by dark colorimeter. It has been shown that the dark range of this colorimeter is good enough for industrial application.

The effect of sulfite on the superadditivity of a phenidone-hydroquinone (P-Q) developer for the anodic formation of silver halide at pH 8.6 was studied using an anodically formed silver halide disk and a rotating ring-disk electrode. In the absence of sulfite the oxidation products of the developing agents were analyzed quantitatively at the ring electrode. But such products could not be detected at the ring electrode when sulfite was added to the developer, because sulfite reacted with quinone or semi-quinone to form hydroquinone monosulfonate which is not electrochemically active in the measured potential region. In such case, we found that the termination of the developing reaction could be detected by the potential change of the silver halide disk electrode.
The period required for the termination of the development was dependent on the presence of sulfite. In case of P-Q developer the developing reaction was suppressed by the addition of sulfite. The electrochemical measurement based on the local cell mechanism for the development reactions indicates that the main effect of sulfite for the P-Q developing reaction is due to the suppression of the anodic part of the development.

The ordered dither method has been widely used for conversion from continuous tone image to digital half tone. In this method, however, the threshold to obtain the bi-level image is determined by the dither matrix without the consideration of the density distribution of an original picture. It is considered as one of causes which make the tone reproduction of digital half tone poor.
Based on the concept “ON probability” calculated by comparing density of each pixel in the original picture with the dither matrix, a new method is proposed to determine the threshold of dither matrix for conversion to bi-level image.
The method is successfully applied to tone correction of digital half tone by using an ink-jet printer.
