Holography has many useful functions. It is applied to optical elements, three dimensional displays, interferometry, and image or optical information processing. Some of these are already in practical use. Further progress in holographic techniques, however, depend to a great extent on improvements in recording materials.
In this review, the recent R & D status of holographic recording materials is described, focusing mainly on organic ones with a few of their applications.
