A modified electrode [ITO/PSiO-MV
2+/Nafion+ Ru (bpy)
32+] was dipped in an aqueous solution containing 2, 5-Dimercapto-1, 3, 4-thiadiazole (DMcT), and was illuminated with a visible light. As the result, the polymer of DMcT was obtained on the electrode, which had disulfide bond. This is due to the oxidation of DMcT by photo-induced electron transfer reaction between the excited state of Ru (bpy)
32+ and the ground state of MV
2+. The DMcT polymer formed only in an illuminated area. The formed polymer pattern could be removed from the electrode by its electrochemical reduction. Therefore, this system must be applied to rewritable image formation with visible light.
