HD Photo (previously known as Windows Media Photo) is a new ffle format for end-to-end digital imaging, supported in the Windows operating system, and freely available for implementation on devices and other platforms. HD Photo provides support for a wide variety of image formats including integer or floating point pixels values up to 32-bits per channel, RGB, gray scale, CMYK and n-channel, and interleaved or planar alpha channels. HD Photo offers advanced region and progressive frequency decoding as well as a number of compressed domain operations. HD Photo's high-performance, low-footprint compression algorithm offers either mathematically lossless compression or lossy compression that is twice as efffcient as JPEG.
