Vanadium pentoxide sols were prepared by the method using the cation exchange resin and Biltz method and studied with an electron microscopy and diffraction method. The sol prepared by the ion exchanger contained capillary crystals and the particles did not grow by aging. The Biltz sol grew like fibre by aging. These sols were confirmed to be vanadium pentoxide by the electron diffraction.
The fibres of Biltz sol, about one year old, could be arranged in parrallel with each other and was investigated by the selected area electron diffraction method. The diffraction pattern was a typical fibre pattern with many layer lines and the fibre axis was confirmed to be
b-axis.
