1. O(H)-decomposing enzyme from
Bac. Fulminans, when applied to O(H) substance, destroyed its O(H) activity reacting with anti-O(H) antibody in eel serum. Chemically it contained a kind of L-fucosidase as the principal component, and liberated from O(H) substance not only a large amount of fucose, which is the end determinant of O(H) specificity, but also a minute amount of galactose and a small amount of oligosaccharides containing fucose, and sometimes also galactose and N-acetylhexosamine.
2. O(H)-decomposing enzyme from
Bac. Cereus, when applied to O(H) substance, destroyed its O(H) activities reacting with anti-O(H) antibodies in eel serum and anti-Sh,
dysenteriae chicken serum. Chemically it contained a kind of β-D-galactosidase besides a kind of L-fucosidase, and liberated from O(H) substance not only fucose and galactose, which are the determinants of its specificities, but also a small amount of oligosaccharides, some of which contained fucose, galactose, and N-acetylhexosamine.
