Adult CF#1 mice thymectomized at birth could be lethally infected by a dose of herpes simplex virus, which could not infect normal adult mice,
via the intraperitoneal route. However, neonatal thymectomy did not increase the susceptibility of mice to Coxsackie B 5 virus infection. The mechanism has been discussed in relation to the ability of neonatally thymectomized mice to develop immunity.
