Tissue homogenates prepared from the adult stickleback, Pungitius pungitius, were electrophoresed on cellulose acetate sheets at pH 8.6 under a constant current of 3.0mA for 45 minutes at room temperature. After electrophoresis, LDH appears as a single, identical band in skeletal muscle, heart, and in a majority of tissues; two additional isozymes are found in both eye and brain homogenates. Moreover, the eye is unique in possessing three negatively charged isozymes in addition to the three cathodal varieties. These findings suggest that the stickleback should be classified as a three-isozyme fish with additional three minor isozymes appearing only in the eye.

Female mice of the C57 Black/MS strain were given subcutaneous injections of 20μg estradiol-17β in 0.02ml sesame oil for 5 days beginning at 0, 3, 5, 8, or 11 days of age and ovariectomized within a week after the last injection. In 118-day-old control mice which had received 5 daily injections of 0.02ml sesame oil from the day of birth and ovariectomized at 10 days of age, the vaginal epithelium was thin, consisting of 2 layers of cells. The vaginal epithelium of mice, 71-96 days old, which had been treated with estradiol for 5 days from 0 or 3 days of age was hyperplastic with superficial layers undergoing keratinization or parakeratosis. In mice which had received 5 daily estradiol injections from 5 or 8 days of age and sacrificed at 96-121 days of age the vaginal epithelium was composed of mucous cells. In animals given 5 estradiol injections from 11 days of age and ovariectomized at 19 days, the vaginal epithelium was similar in structure to that of oil-injected control mice.

In 104-day-old mice of the C57 Black/MS strain which had been given 5 daily injections of 0.02ml sesame oil from the day of birth and ovariectomized 5 days after the last injection, the vaginal epithelium was atrophic, consisting of 2 layers of cells. In contrast to this, in two-thirds of 171-day-old mice which had received 5 daily injections of deoxycorticosterone acetate (20μg in 0.02ml oil) from the day of birth and ovariectomized at 9 days of age the vaginal epithelium was mucified. In animals receiving similar treatment with cortisone acetate or cholesterol, the vaginal epithelium exhibited nothing different from that of the control mice, when sacrificed at 182 and 153 days, respectively, except for marked wrinklingsof the epithelial surface.

A Himalayan species Trillium govanianum (x=5, 2n=20) was concluded to be an allotetraploid composed of two different genomes, both of which are not to be found in the present day Japanese and American species. This finding is highly significant in confirming further the fact that speciation by hybridization and chromosome doubling had been recurrent in Eastern Asia, whereas it had not happened in North America.

Eleven cases of untreated solid tumors of colon were chromosomally investigated. Seven cases showed a chromosome number mode in the diploid range. Cells were characterized by the karyotypic feature showing that loss or excess of chromosomes occurred frequently in group C. Four cases were tumors having a mode in the triploid range. Cells in the triploid range seemed to be derivatives from aneuploid cells in the diploid range. No cell having a normal chromosome complement was detected in the cases under study.

Studies were carried out on the frequencies of the ABO, MN, Rh, Q, Lewis, Kell, Lutheran, Duffy, and Webb blood groups and I, Vel, Wr^a, and Sw^a antigens in the Ami tribe. The Ami tribe has higher B, MN, and Q types than those of the Japanese. The Ami tribe has lower Le(a+) frequency than that of the Japanese. It was found that of the Rh groups the frequency of cde chromosomes is much lower than that of English or American, while the frequency of CDe chomosomes is somewhat higher than that among the latter. Our examination has revealed no case of k, Fy, Vel, and I negative reactions, nor Lu^a, Webb, Wr^a, and Sw^a positive reactions.

Recently, many studies on the polymorphic biochemical systems controlled by the simple inheritance mode have been reported. The polymorphism of transferrin in human, animals and poultry has been demonstrated by many investigators. But that in goats has never been reported satisfactorily. β-Globulin polymorphism in goats was classified into three phenotypes by Ashton and McDougall, Millson and Pattison.
The variable β-globulins in goats had been identified by the present authors to be iron-binding transferrins.
In order to clarify the inheritance mode of serum transferrin type in goats, and to consider the differences of gene frequencies of transferrins among a few breeds of goats, the experiments were performed by using 2058 goats. The results obtained are as follows:
1) Three transferrin phenotypes in goats expressed as Tf_I-I, Tf_I-II, and Tf_II-II are genetically controlled by two autosomal alleles, Tf^I, Tf^II. The two alleles are co-dominant to each other. Therefore, the genotypes are expressed as terminology Tf^I/Tf^I, Tf^I/Tf^II, and Tf^II/Tf^II.
2) Gene frequencies of transferrin types in goats were as follows: Tf^I …… p=0.915, Tf^II … q=0.085
3) The great differences recognized on the frequencies of appearance of the transferrin phenotypes were also observed on the gene frequencies of transferrins among J.G., T.G., R.G., S.G., G.G., I.G., and H.G..
