An ovary from one-year-old normal or neonatally estrogenized rats were transplanted under the abdominal skin of ovariectomized rats. Vaginal smear records in the two kinds of recipients were characterized by prolonged estrus. All the ovarian grafts consisted mainly of corpora lutea and small follicles after residence for 50 days in the hosts. These findings indicate that the neonatal estrogen injections did not produce any permanent change in ovarian reactivity to gonadotropins.

In immature rats with ovaries mildly luteinized by injections of 5 I.U. PMS and 2 I.U. HCG, bilateral brain lesions were placed stereotaxically by applying a 1.5mA direct current through stainless steel electrodes for 5 or 10 seconds. Following uterine traumatization carried out 4 days later, deciduomata were developed only in animals in which a region dorsolateral and a little anterior to the right and left paraventricular nuclei was destructed. Those rats bearing lesions situated more anteriorly or posteriorly were incapable of responding to uterine trauma by formation of deciduomata. Accordingly, the above-mentioned region of the brain appears to be concerned with the control of PIF release and consequently of hypophysial prolactin secretion.

In ovariectomized immature rats, deciduomal reaction to uterine trauma induced by daily injections of 2mg progesterone and 0.2μg estradiol was greatly attenuated by concurrent injections of 5mg 20α-OH-P. The vaginal epithelium was equally mucified in rats in which deciduoma formation was totally inhibited and in those yielding positive deciduomal reaction, showing that the antagonism between the two steroids took place as a local phenomenon.

A cytogenetic study is carried out with leucocyte cultures in a 28-day-old female infant with the clinical symptoms of
cri du chat syndrome and in her parent. The propositus showed the hort arm deletion of no. 5 chromosome, characteristic of this syndrome. A similar abnormality is observed in her mother. Because of her normal phenotype, she is presumed as a balanced translocation carrier, though it is impossible to demonstrate the evidence of translocation. Her father shows a normal karyotype, 46, XY.

The glycoproteins and glycopeptides which have potent inhibitory activity against various phytohemagglutinins and human anti-A serum were isolated from human group A erythrocyte stroma. They were partially purified and their carbohydrate compositions were studied.
