TPPase- and ACPase-activity were investigated in the pars distalis of normal, thyroidectomized and castrated pigs. TPPase reaction product was found in inner two or three Golgi cisternae, around forming and mature secretory granules, in intercellular space or along the cell membrane of castrated gonadotrophs and in nuclear pores of thyroidectomy cells and castration cells. The staining intensity of both cell membrane and nuclear pores was parallel with the level of cellular activity on secretion. TPPase-activity in the Golgi cisternae may be associated with the synthesis and condensation of secretory granules and those in cell membrane and nuclear pores may be related to the increased transport of substance. ACPase- activity was found consistently in the lysosomes, condensing vacuoles, and internal Golgi lamellae and occasionally in the inner Golgi cisternae.
