Over a range of the furnace temperature from dry ice temperature to 1, 000°C. the rotational temperatures have been determined from the (Q1) hand of the CO, Ångstrom system under high frequency ring and glow discharge excitations, an oscillation circuit of 40 kiloycles being used. In the case of ring discharge, it has been concluded that the rotational temperature coincides well with the true temperature of the gas, which is defined with the mean translatory energy of the gas molecules an I measured with a gas thermometer. The relation between rotational temperatures and furnace temperatures. has also been inves tigated and tried to he explained by the formula derived from the hypo hesis than the collisions of ions accelerated by the field with neutral molecules raise the temperature of the gas molecules on the while In the case of glow discharge, the above relation has also been investigated and found to he quite diferent from the former cast. The effect of tube material on the ratational temperature has also been studied

The polarization of electrons by doubly 102°-angled scatterings has been investigated on the basis of the magnetic spectra at azimuthal angles of 0° and 180°, for various velocities of incident beam, using two similar Geiger's electrons counters and an oval formed electromagnet with two gaps. As the polarizer comparatively thick gold targets and as the analyser thin gold foils of 8×10-6 cm. thick have been used. In comparison of partial areas of the distribution curves of the last scattered electrons at azimuthal angles of 0° and 180° for elastic scattering alone, large asymmetry has been found in agreement with the results of Mott's theory within the range of mean error of about 2 percent. The magnetic spectra are similar to the results of P.B. Wagner who has investigated the spectra in the case of single right-angled scattering by gold with thickness 0.2 micron as well as thick targets with cathode rays whose velocities were up to 40 kv. A discussion of polarization and depolarization of the scattered electrons are given on the basis of the behaviour of the magnetic spectra in double scattering

Surface energies of several liquids are calculated by the aid of data now available. Short distance regularity of molecular distribution (facecentered cubic lattice) is assumed for He, H2, D2, Ne, N2, A, and surface energies are calculated by summing up contributions from intermolecular potential energies The calculated surface energies agree well with observed values. The relation between the surface energy and the frequency of vibrations of molecules is investigated and the relation found by Wen, Wen-Po and Sibaiya and Rama Rao, ν=const.√σ/m. ν :frequency of vibrations of molecenles σ: surface tension m:mass of a molecul is interpreted by the present theory. Finally, the surface energy of liquid mercury at the welting temperature is calculated by the aid of the atomic distribution function obtained by Boyd and Wakeham from X-ray analysis and inter-atomic potential energy calculated by Hiklebrand, Wakeham and Boyd. The calculated value is 490 ergs/cm2 while the observed value is about 500 ergs/cm2
