The two- dimensional motion of a doubly symmetric cylinder with constant circulation round it through an incompressible perfect liquid under no external force is discussed and the equations of motion are integrated completely by making use of elliptic functions or elementary functions. The results can be stated simply as follows:
(i) According to the values of the integration constants
C and
D there are three cases I. D
2>4ρ
2Γ
2RC, II. D
2=4ρ
2Γ
2RC and III. D
2<4ρ
2Γ
2RC.
(ii) In the cases I and III, all the quantities which appear in the equations of motion are expressed in terms of elliptic functions and consequently the motion of the cylinder is periodic with respect to time.
(iii) In the case II, the equations of motion can be integrated by making use of trigonometrical or hyperbolic functions and therefore in latter case the motion can be by no means periodic in contrary to the former one.
As it is difficult to obtain intuitive images of the shape of the paths described by the centre of the cylinder from the general expressions for them, many examples are calculated numerically and their paths are shown by figures

The absolute number of gamma-ray quanta emitted from a known number of Cu nuclei by the action of D-D neutrons (2.52MeV) was measured by Geiger-Müller counters of known efficiencies, and the number of incident neutrons was measured by a high pressure ionisation chamber filled with hydrogen and nitrogen. Thus the cross section of inelastic scattering of D-D neutrons by Cu nuclei was obtained to be

By applying the method of gas diffraction analysis, the theoretical intensity curves for the three halos obtained from thin films of highly polymerised organic substances by electron diffraction, are calculated. They account successfully for the observed maxima. By deviding a large number of interatomic distances into three appropriate groups and by means of partial use of the integral form in place of the usual summation form, a good agreement of curves with observations can be obtained while such simple model as a glucose or a cellobiose unit of cellulose can not give satisfactory results

In the present paper, an exact treatment of solving the problem of the potential flow around the arbitrary bodies of revolution has been developed by applying the method of sources and sinks.
If power series development of
r-1 in cosθ, the system of coordinates being a polar one in meridian plane, is assumed as the equation of the meridian profile in polar coordinates, the boundary condition yield an integral equation with nonsymmetric kernel.
The kernel will be expanded into Legendre's polynomial, then it has been taken to the form sn called the type of α-kernel, and integral equation has been lead to a system of linear equation.
Later we have obtained the condition that there exist the solution of foregoing a system of linear equation.
In practice it will be all right to make the distributive function with numerical value of this solution, but examples of numerical calculation will he reported in later paper.
On ending it I should like to extend my thank to the director M. Kataoka who has been kind enough to give his suggestion here and there on this matter during the course of my work

It is pointed out in (I) that the grounds upon which Kargin's opinion on erystalline patterns based are not so significant as to deny the erystalline state. Simple relation between crystalline patterns and the substituents of cellulose derivatives is described in (II). The calculation of the intensity carve for the three halos by Kargin and Leypunskaja is false (III). Under what conditions the application of the
visual method to the three halos of such small
s-valne as
s_??_6Å
-1 can be permitted is discussed in (IV). The two and three halos obtained from gases of methane series and others and some oils are refered in (V) which seem to give an indirect support to our interpretation. In (VI) are summarized the results and remarks obtained in the ealculation made in the preceding report

The scattering and absorption cross sections of Mn, Br, I, Ag, Cu, As, W etc. were measured for various resonance neutrons by the same method as described in the previous paper
(K1). Unexpectedly large changes in the scattering c.s. with neutron energies were found for all scatterers examined and the following general rules were found. (A) The scattering c.s. shows a maximum for the neutron energies corresponding to resonance absorption levels. (B) It does not increase, however, corresponding to the 1
v increase of absorption near the thermal energies. (C) It has larger values in the high energy side of a resonance level than in the low energy side. That is, it jumps up to higher values when the neutron energy increases beyond the resonance level of the scattering nucleus. (D) The scattering c.s. for the nuclei which have no resonance level remains constant or decreases gradually with increasing neutron energies.
The minimum of the scattering cross sections as predicted by the dispersion formula based on the Bohr's theory of compound nucleus was not found.
It was confirmed that W has two resonance levels at the energies near “A” and “I
1” levels, Co near “D
1” and “I
1” levels, As near “I
1”, and Cu between “Br” and “Mn” levels respectively

The total cross sections of thermal neutrons were measured for Armco and electrolytic iron. pure Cu and pure Al as a function of degree of cold-work (rolling). The thermal neutrons from a paraffin howitzer containing 200-300mC Rn+Be source were detected by a BCl
3, ionization chamber and a linear amplifier. It was found that the annealed samples of Fe and Cu show smaller cross sections which quickly increase to saturation values by a cold-working_ only of a order of a few per cent, while Al shows no arked changes. By putting the observed ratio of the scattering cross sections to be equal to tanh mq mq. which is a measure of the degree of extinction, the size of a mosaic block was determined to be of the order of 5×10
-4cm for annealed Armco iron, 3.6×10
-4cm for annealed electrolytic iron and 5.8×10
