In his “Hokkaid Tisitu Ryakuron (Geological Sketch of Hokkaid) ” in 1890, Kotora Jamo has illustrated three non-marine fossil shells from the Sorati coal-field, Province of Isikari, Hokkaia, and they were
Paludina sp.,
Anodonta sp. and
Cyrena sp. These three shells were also listed in his Explanatory Text to the Geological Map of Hokkaidt. Unfortunately, however, their exact for mations and localities were not mentioned in these publications. Judging from the general stratigraphy of the Sorati coal-field it is presumable that these shells were obtained from certain horizons in the Oligocene Isikari series. Examining the original specimens of JIMBO's
Paludina sp. and
Anodonta sp., stored in our Geological Institute, Faculty of Science, Imperial University of Tokyo, the conclusion that the former is a new species of
Viviparus, for which
V. jimboi is proposed here, and the latter is a varietal form of
Margaritifera Perdahurica (YOKOYAMA). Although the original specimen of JIMBO's
Cyrena sp. could not be, found in the Institute collections, it is found that his illustration best agrees with the high, subtrigonal form of
Corbicula atrata tokudai (YOKOYAMA) The writer's heartiest thanks are due to Prof. Teiichi KOBAYASHI of the Geological Institute, Faculty of Science, Imperial University of Tokyo, for looking through the manuscript of this short paper.
