We have tried to deposit Diamond-Like-Carbon (DLC) films by means of Pulsed Plasma Deposition (PPD) technique. In this technique, pulsed electron and plasma beams irradiate a graphite disk target through a discharge tube and ablated particles from the target are deposited on the substrate as a thin film. We have found that the ablation power can be controlled by pinching the electron beam. The optical emission of C2-Swan-Band of C2 (dimer of C), C+ and C2+ ions were found in the plume. Deposition rate of the DLC film showed a linear relationship with the discharge voltage. Hardness of deposited DLC films was measured to be more than 30 GPa, and the content of sp3 bond was approximately 50%. AFM and FE-SEM observations showed that the apparent grain size of deposited DLC films was less than 300nm and that the grains were consisted of finer grains (~50nm). The surface roughness (Ra) of the deposited DLC film was about 0.02 µm. We conclude from the above results that the PPD can be one of the superior techniques for producing DLC films with high hardness.

This paper describes the elucidation about the removal of Fe-42wt% Ni alloy (It abbreviates as alloy 42.) surface oxidation layer after heating processing using dilute electrolytically oxidized water. Almost, it clarified that electrolytically oxidized water could remove the surface oxidation layer of alloy 42, by the immersing experiment and the analysis of the sample surface. Next, it made clear when the barrier operation of the high nickel concentration area which was formed by heating processing, was cause about that the dissolved oxygen in electrolytically oxidized water didn't diffuse to the samples surface layer after the heating processing. Moreover, by the oxide film removal experiment which used the sample of the existence or non-existence of the heating processing, it reinspected that electrolytically oxidized water could remove alloy 42 surface oxidation layer after heating processing. Like oxygen, as for carbon there was not diffusion to the sample surface layer. The results indicate that electrolytically oxidized water can, indeed, be applied to remove alloy 42 surface oxidation layer after heating processing.

Under atmospheric pressure, homogeneous non-equilibrium cold plasma was generated stably by rf (13.56 MHz) excitation of a mixture of He and O2 gases. By feeding Zn-MOPD (C18H30O6Zn) into this plasma with He carrier gas, transparent flat ZnO thin films were successfully fabricated on glass substrates. Dependence of rf power to the structure of ZnO films was investigated. In addition, microstructure of the films was studied by XRD and AFM measurements.

This report deals with the machining performance of electro-chemical discharge machining (ECDM) with isolated multiple electrodes (divided power). Holes were machined by ECDM on glass. Their shapes were observed and compared with those with multiple electrodes connected electrically in parallel (equi-potential) and a single electrode. Cracks are frequently generated on the hole entrance by heat expansion in the equi-potential power and single electrode. Then they originate bases of protrusions by erosion. Eventually, a protrusion is formed. Because bubbles collapse during intervals in the divided power, hole diameter is not enlarged.

Precision machining methods for insulated materials are demanded in various fields. The authors have proposed a lathe-type machine for electro-chemical discharge machining (ECDM) to prevent heat accumulation in a glass workpiece. In this report, removal mechanism is experimentally investigated by measuring machining force with a two-axis force sensor during ECDM. The tangential force at an applied voltage of 40 V was larger than that at 0 V. Soluble and sticky sodium silicate was generated by chemical reaction of silica glass with sodium ion. Removal mainly caused dissolution of the sodium silicate into electrolyte.

Silicon carbide was expected as a semiconductor substrate of next generation, since its material properties is superior to that of silicon under the high temperature condition. However, it is difficult to slice silicon carbide by using a conventional multi-wire saw method with slurry because of its hardness. On the other hand, a high performance slicing of silicon carbide would be expected by using EDM technique, since the material removal of EDM process could be performed regardless of material hardness. Therefore, in this study, EDM slicing characteristics of silicon carbide was experimentally investigated by using newly developed multi-wire EDM slicing equipment, and the improvement method of process performance was also discussed.

Transfer from wheelchair to bed is difficult for wheelchair users without assistance. Because they must lift up them body and move from wheelchair to bed by themselves while transfer. Some lifts or assist systems that calls transfer aids, are developed to help transfer, but they need assistance. Lifts need large space to use and it cannot be carried easily. Some transfer aids need to improve the wheelchair to attach. The aim of our study is to develop a transfer aids by self-help model that can use easily by wheelchair users themselves. This transfer aids can attach to wheelchair without improvement. And it can be carried easily so wheelchair users can use everywhere. The trial model had a problem that users cannot transfer easily because of a gap between seat of a wheelchair and transfer aids. So we improved this problem, and we measured the load by sensor sheets that caused by user while transfer.
